Thoughts on Solis vs. V. Klitschko?

    Solis, like "Gomez & Johnson" of before, will try to initiate something from the getgo, but once he has discovered that getting past V. Klit's ramrod jab that shoots from his hip is no easy thing to do, he'll go into his defensive shell looking to avoid getting clocked and stopped.

    Solis is a decent fighter, but still not properly tested in the pros and is overweight. Vitali will win every round but not get enough credit for stopping a good up and coming fighter dead in his tracks

    The more interesting question is whether Vitali can knock him out. If he has worked on following through his punches since the Briggs shellacking then probably so

    Solis best wins are over Austin, Drumond, and Barrett. While its true he has not beaten a top 5 contender, he also has not had the chance to do so!

    Let's compare and contrast results of current or former top 5 contenders vs the same me, shall we?

    Ibragimov drew with Austin. Solis easily defeated Austin, and would have TKO'd him had Austin not repeatedly fouled out.

    Haye had his hands full, and some say might have been knocked down by Barrett. Solis easily defeated Barrett.

    Chagaev did not look good at all vs Drumond. Solis easily defeated Drumond.

    So there you have it. While the above facts might not coincide with your antagonist stance lately in Klitschko threads, they are the truth.

    Now to address Solis's amateur career. If you throw Harrison out ( Savon should have fought at super heavy, and Solis at heavy in 2000 ) most of the gold and silver medal winners at the World Amateur Championship or Olympics that turned professional have been champions as professions.

    From 1998-2004 the list includes: Mercer, Lewis, Bowe, Klitschko, Ibragimov, and Chagaev. This is a strong correlation. Solis was a better amateur than few of the above boxers. Povetkin if had the opportunity to fight Valuev would have taken his belt. But Haye angled his way there first.

    My point exactly. You claimed in an earlier thread that he had been moved along quite fast, or quite quickly...the man is not qualified for a title shot, full stop.

    As for top five contenders, yes I knew that, has he even boxed someone who was in the top 10 at the time he boxed him?

    I'll trust my eyes. Solis hasn't beat a top 5 contender, but he looks to be a pretty strong pressure fighter and has at least showed up in decent shape. I favor Vitali, but this could his hardest fight since Sanders.

    Don't really care one bit to be honest. Solis has shown himself to be yet another slob. As far as I'm concerned, if the fighter shows little motivation to train then why should I care about his fights?

    Decent shape? Because he's not weighing 270? By his own admission his ideal weight is 230 so because he's in at 246 or whatever, you believe he's in shape?

    He's 15lbs overweight, and at 230, frankly, he'd be carrying plenty of fat.

    He's close to his career low as a professional. He doesn't look "fat" in the weigh in pics, not ripped, but not obese. If he is huffing and puffing after a few rounds, I will admit to being wrong.

    This "fat" stuff is really getting exaggertated.

    Whether he's huffing and puffing or not, he'll be hampered in terms of mobility and conditioning. Recovering from hard punches is in large part about conditioning. This guy is going to get hit hard in the head tomorrow over and again, if is in better shape he gets sharper quicker.

    Like GreatA said, why give a ****?

    On the other hand, I know what you mean. Even if it's a pathetic one, he's made an effort and shifting another 15lbs in between fights likely would not have been good for him anyway.

    But Vitali is fighting an out of shape slob.

    Well I would say at 270 lbs, he's an out of shape slob. At 247, decent enough. 230 would be ideal but I don't think he's weighed that in over 5 years.
