Some serious hypocrisy happening on OTR about Pacquiao, Floyd & Martinez...

On this week's On The Ropes boxing radio show, they are going on about how Pacquiao and Mayweather want no part of Martinez because he is too risky for them, but then they say Martinez has no business fighting supermiddleweights because they are so much bigger than him.

Pacquiao usually weighs around 148 on fightnight, apparently he was a career-high 150ish vs Clottey but the man himself didn't like being that heavy because he felt he lost a little speed.

Mayweather has got a bit bigger/heavier since he came back, being 152 in the ring vs Marquez, and he definitely looked more than that in his next fight vs Mosley.

And in Martinez's recent fight with Dzinziruk, he was 170lbs in the ring and did not look to be carrying any excess body weight at all, he was muscular, fast and superfit.

So the OTR crew think that 148lbs Pac vs 170lbs Martinez or mid-late 150s Floyd vs 170lbs Martinez are fair fights that are only not happening because Pac and Floyd think of Maravila as too risky, but the same OTR crew write off the very thought of a 170lbs Martinez fighting a supermiddleweight?

    Hypocrisy is rife.

A 170lbs Martinez has 22lbs on Pacquiao. If Andre Ward was to have 22lbs on Martinez by fight-time, he'd have to be a ridiculous 192lbs!!!!! There's absolutely no way in hell Ward comes anywhere remotely close to that. And there's also no way in hell that the OTR crew would be criticizing Martinez for not chasing a fight with a 192lbs fighter, obviously, considering they don't even think he should be fighting a supermiddleweight.

A 170lbs Martinez probably has 10-12lbs on Floyd, maybe even 15lbs (I doubt it, but it's possible). That is more realistic than Pac vs Maravila, but it still smacks of hypocrisy from the OTR team, because 10-12lbs is probably the maximum difference between Martinez and a natural supermiddleweight like Ward come fight-time, so if it's good enough to justify Martinez vs Floyd, why isn't it good enough to justify Martinez vs a smw like Ward?

    Bull****.

    All good points made.

Don't expect this thread to be here very long though.

Pac is fighter of the decade, a top20 ATG, and the best boxer in the world... so he is held to a higher standard.

I'm just waiting for the day Martinez will face an opponent who fights with his brain.

Bute, Ward, Froch, Pac, Floyd are all opponents I'd like to see him fight.

Yeah, I'd say your goodbyes. See you in a week.

In relation to your post, I think that if Sergio Martinez can make the 154 pound limit, there is no reason why a Pacquiao or Mayweather fight should not happen. Both have held titles at the weight in recent times. Obviously that would be a stretch for Sergio, and quite possibly out of the question, but if Martinez can make 154, there is absolutely no reason why fights with Pac and Mayweather should not me made.

Dzinziruk has good fundamentals but fights like a robot. He is not what I call an intelligent fighter. He is good at the fundamentals, but cannot step outside the box when needed. He does not fight his fight based on what his opponent presents to him. He just fights his fight.

Having Pacman fight Margarito for a fake 154lb belt now that is bull****. If margarito came in 170lbs fight night and manny won *******s would not make a peep. But since this is Sergio...

Weighed in at 144.6, was 148 in the ring.

Martinez was 158.75 at the weigh-in last week, and 170 in the ring.

Sorry, when I read an article by a Pacquiao fan, I'm thinking they're probably wrong somewhere, before I've even finished it.

Floyd was 150 in ring with Marquez and 149 in ring with Mosely. Mayweather said himself, that he was TRYING to get up to 152 to face Mosely, but was unable to achieve it.

The actual truth is, great fighters have taken on fighters 22+ heavier than them in the ring, numerous times, and haven't complained about it.

I believe Oscar de la Hoya was 23 pounds heavier than Mayweather, in ring.

Margarito was 165lbs on fightnight, and has never even fought as high as 160.

Martinez weighs 170 on fightnight, is the middleweight champion of the world, and knocks people out at middleweight.

If you can't see the difference, that's your problem.

Come on man, have a look at the top 20, and decide who you move out........... Leonard is usually about 18!

Pacquiao and Floyd are closer to 30 All time
