I was wondering the same thing. He didn't throw too many kicks but i gotta give jones credit. I expect shogun to dominate when they're striking but jones did better. This dude is gonna be good for a long time.

I get the tongue in cheek nature of this thread, mocking the idea that Shogun fans are going to start making excuses. But I don't see it happening. The dominance from Jones was too complete and it's hard to imagine any version of Rua in the UFC beating Jones, and I think only most delusional fans won't recognize that.

  7. Jones worked him with pure talent and athleticism.

I think pre-surgery Rua would have been more competitive, but Jones would have still ultimately been the victor, too big, strong and unpredictable. I hated seeing Shogun getting owned like that

lol when Shogun wins he's the legend we always knew he was. When he loses, like he did against Forrest, he clearly wasn't at his best and was debilitated by one thing or another.

Truth is Jones was just too much for him in all areas. What a montrous performance. He made Shogun look like he belonged in a division below him.

Would be a good thing if he's the future of MMA. These guys no longer will be able to afford coming in flabby as Shogun did today, with guys like Jones coming in optimal fighting shape and fitness, as most elite boxers do.

It was just like they said in the promo, New school Vs. Old School. Jones won because he made Shogun waste all his energy in the first round when he had him on bottom, then when Shogun tried to stand up he ate a kick and a straight left to the face which left him severly stunned, from then on you could clearly see that he was hurt, he fough 30% slower and constantly tried to get his senses back to no avail. Tonight was a testament to the evolution of MMA.

I think Rua simply realised that if he missed with the kick he was going on the ground and that happened in the second round when Rua did try a leg kick and got taken down straight away.

Jones took the kicks away with his wrestling.
