Pacquiao apologizes to Margarito after win abs-cbnNEWS.com Posted at 11/16/2010 10:34 PM | Updated as of 11/17/2010 12:21 AM MANILA, Philippines Newly crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) super welterweight king Manny Pacquiao revealed on Tuesday that he apologized to his badly-beaten opponent, Antonio Margarito, right after their bout last Saturday (Sunday in Manila). In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News aired over TV Patrol on Tuesday, the Filipino boxing champion said he visited his opponent in his locker room to offer his apology. Nag-sorry ako. Sabi ko 'salamat' at nag-sorry ako sa kampo niya at sa kanya (I said sorry. I thanked him, then said sorry to him and his camp), Pacquiao told ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo. The diminutive Filipino champion bashed the taller Margarito black-and-blue during their title clash over the weekend. After the fight, both of the Mexicans eyes were badly swollen because of the beating. There was a deep cut under his right eye, which was evident as early as Round 7. It was later reported that Margarito injured his right eye socket, and would need to undergo surgery. Inakap ko siya and then nag-sorry ako sa wife niya and doon sa team (I embraced him and then apologized to his wife and his team), said Pacquiao. The Filipino boxer earlier admitted that Margarito was a tough opponent to beat, noting that the Mexican continued to press on despite his injuries. Pacquiao said Margarito was already badly injured during Round 11. He was looking at referee Laurence Cole several times, hoping to have the fight stopped. I didnt want to hurt him because boxing is not all about killing each other, he said. And since Cole permitted Margarito to fight on, Pacquiao decided to take it easy on the Mexican in the final round. This was not the first time Pacquiao showed compassion to his fallen opponent. In June 2008, Pacquiao tried to help Mexican-American David Dangerous Diaz on his feet after knocking out the latter for the WBC lightweight title. The Filipino halted Diaz in the 9th round after outpacing and outboxing the Mexican-American. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Just thought I'd post as it's the first I've heard of this. Great stuff from Manny. His wins have all been lucky according to him, and now even admits he apologises to his opponents for these lucky wins.
Pacquiao is being too kind, this is boxing, no need to apologize. I would rather have him try to knock him out then carry the guy, if it was reversed margarito would have destroyed him.
or anyone else for that matter, its cool if everything goes well and he wins like the marg fight, but what if the other guy throws a punch thats knocks him out in those last rounds? its dangerous, better play it safe and stop him if you can.
This is exactly why he needs to be in tune for a fighter like Mosley. Margarito and Cotto, you can kinda take the last few rounds off as they're both accumulative punchers.
Pac wouldn't sink to his level though. That fight should have been stopped anyway - Margarito could have been damaged for life if Manny had of fought on at the pace he was going.... I wonder would Cotto have been so compassionate in that position?!
Pac didn't do enough for margo to consider taking a knee, or throwing in the towel therefore pac has no obligation to stop throwing punches. Look when mosley knocked him out margo gave up, against pac he didn't.
Dod Margarito apologise to Cotto? Or apologise to Mosley for trying to kill him with blocks in his gloves I think not This is boxing, I don't want to see anyone permanently hurt But Margarito deserved every single punch he took for trying to cheat and seriously hurt previous opponents. I don't think the Mosley fight was the only one he has tried to cheat in before
******* what do you mean didn't do enough, if i blow ur eye socket out, do u think it isn't enough? stupid dumb ass...:rofl:rofl:rofl i dont know what is ur race, but ur a shame to ur race. coz ur brainless
Physical damage margo consumed in the fight doesn't dispute what i said about pac not doing enough to force margo to take the knee, what part of that don't you understand? And what has race got to do with what I said? I guess you must be a pinoy fan boy to react the way you just did.:-(
Pacquiao chose to face Margarito, as he was a guaranteed win at 154. The guy should apologize for not taking on the best fighters there
