Former world champion Ricardo Mayorga could return to the ring in September, against an opponent by name, in what is the final stretch of his

career. Sandinista Councilman Enrique Armas will provide a tribute to the late Alexis Arguello in September and there are already talks about the

of Mayorga being on the show. Mayorga fought a few weeks ago at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and was stopped by Miguel Cotto in the twelfth round. Mayorga wants to resume his career in the Middleweight division. He might return above the weight, but plans to drop down to 160 to hunt for a title shot. Mayorga's is interested in facing Julio Cesar Chavez jr.,who is schedule to fight German boxer Sebastian Zbik on June 4 in California for the WBC Middleweight title.

mayorga didn't appear like a shot fighter against cotto. he's also pretty entertaining in and out of the ring, so more power to him.

Imo, he did appear to be close to shot fighter, if not shot, and I will take JR, of all people, to beat him. :-(

Just collect some paychecks and retire Mayorga, please.

The guy has wanted to retire since 2003, its a shame he cant bring himself to stick to it.

Please continue to fight Mayorga and provide entertaining fights.

Jr would go life and death if Mayroga gets in shape.

You know.... I don't mind this fight at all as long as it's not ppv.

Mayorga was in shape for cotto.

Can you picture mayorga at the press conference vs baby faced mexican chavez?

Its going to be at middleweight, or above.... Mayorga isnt 'in shape' at those weights, because he cant be. He cant carry that weight.

If JR comes in shape, and I mean anything close to the one that abused duddy, he will put a beating on Mayorga and I wont be surprised with a stoppage.

I dont see how any real fan of Mayorga can seriously want to see him continue to fight contenders, taking pointless punishment as he nears near 40 years old.

Fight some scrubs, collects some last paychecks, and retire. Open some boxing gyms or something like that. I dont need to see Mayorga get beat up for a living now that hes got nothing to offer but awesome press conferences and the ability to go rounds.

Win or lose, Mayorga is in entertaining fights and he showed that he can still compete at a certain level. Chavez is at best B level ,the fight would be competitive.

Mayorga is probably dead broke but he isn't shot. Let the dude do what he is best at and that's talking smack and boxing.

Agreed with every word you said.
Good point on Mayorga not possibly being able to get in proper shape for a 160 lbs fight.

Mayorga was motivated and in proper shape for Cotto, and even then he could only muster to fight in spurts.

Chavez would massacre Mayorga at any weight above 160 lbs. I for one would like to see them fight in a ring, but the only reason I would'nt want to see this fight get made is that I'd have to stomach more of Mayorga's press conference insults that quite frankly have gotten more than just stale, they've actually just become embarrasments now.

    Indeed
Would be even more funny if he made JCC jr. cry during the weighin or press conference.

Chavez can't punch, Cotto really could.

I haven't seen much of Mayorga but he put out an impressive performance regardless. I would like to see it happen.

Glad he's not hanging them up just yet.
