    I'm 17 yrs, 140lbs and 5"7 15 % body fat

i find it weird that people like Gamboa weigh less than me but are way stronger
also that i weigh the same as welterweights like khan, and as heavy as mayweather at time yet they taller/bigger/stronger

should i work hard to be a featherweight and then grow to welter? due to my height and age

recently i've been eating clean, brown carbs only and lots of cardio
yet i still cannot see how i can be a featherweight

Do you have any fights at all yet? Are you in a gym? As you train seriously you'll get a feel for your body and what weight class would suit you best. For tournaments I would imagine it would be an issue of seeing if you can get to 132 to start with, that's lightweight in the amateurs.

It all depends on how you feel. When I started college I was 5'8'' 125 lbs and the constant running for the boxing team got me down to 116-118 lbs, but honestly I was about twice as strong just walking into fights at 125-130.

The opponents punches hurt me more at the lower weights, I bled more, the refs stopped more contests because there was a lack of energy by the third round. At 125 I felt so much better. You need to decide where you feel the most energy, where you don't feel drained, where you feel the strongest and quickest. For example, even though Pac is fighting bigger guys naturally, I think he feels so good and energetic at 144 pounds it doesn't really matter if the right kind of opponent is in front of him.

Try 132-135, some of those welterweights are pretty strong, and some of them are REALLY tall. If you still don't feel strong enough see if you can get down to 125 but you need to be wise to how your body feels, too. You can make yourself dead at a certain weight.

    mmmm
this is what i'm thinking. im pretty strong because i hold it up against guys that are 70+ kg but these amateur welterweights are much quicker than me
i'd like to go down in weight and keep natural strength. i know as i go down they'll get quicker but at least they'll feel my punches more

Schedule a fight already and see what works for you.

so.... you havent had any bouts and you are already comparing yourself to the best in the whole world at the sport???

don't compare yourself to them. compare yourself to other 17 year old novices. go to a tournement and check out the guys. you are about average. with training you will shed 10 lbs easy.

train. get in shape. get bouts. then reasses.
