I was re reading last weeks issue of Boxing News and I came across a very strange quote from the Klits manager Boente. He said: The undercard is never really important for the fans. In the end it all depends on the main event. With RTL for example, for the millions watching at home, they don't even see the undercard. Of course I'm taking this quote a little out of context (he said it I believe as he was pissed Solis had to pull out in the first due to injury), but how wrong is this guy? I dunno about others, but if the main event of a PPV was a let down, a solid undercard would more than make up for it. Yes, most people buy a PPV for the main event, but personally I prefer a "Magnificent 7" or a "Gr8 Britain vs the World/King Khan" event. So, is this guy wrong? Or let's put it another way, what do you prefer. A Mag 7 type bill with no real main event, but 6 or 7 pretty decent fights. Or 2 top 10 fighters going to war with a poor undercard?
totally wrong the undercard is the best way to showcase ur stable and the start of the process of building them into a PPV star
This is the main reason why K2 are bad for boxing. All other promoters have prospects on there undercards so they are at least giving something back to boxing.
Nothing worse than a bad undercard even if the main event is an epic match up the bill needs to be solid. Promoters need to have at least 2 good quality undercard fight reletive to the main event and a few more pick ems or tough encounters for prospects.
Yeah, that's what i thought I agree with NSFW, 2 good undercard fights and a main event and I'd be happy. That, and maybe 2-4 prospects on the card, 1 of which should be a step up in quality.
I go to alot of local boxing and the odd big show and have been mighty impressed by some shows and badly disapointed with others, seeing a random afrobum or eurogay against a good prospect always pisses me off. At least with the home made journeymen you know what you are going to get and appreciate that certain boxers are better than their record or at least come out swinging for a minute. I know we can not expect 'Mag 7' shows all the time but the recent shambles in Scotland was terrible.
No, casuals and nuthuggers don't give a ****. Boxing fans want to see as many good matchups as possible.
It will probably be Jonathen Banks vs a nobody as chief support and Sprott in an 8 rounder, the sad thing is, i`m not joking,i don`t expect much better then that from the Klits.
Personally I'll be pissed if Haye - Klit doesn't have a good undercard. Of course we are all buying the Card for that fight, but think about it. Both Haye and Klit can bang, and both have a suspect chin. Would it be a massive surprise if 1 is knocked out in the first 4 rounds? 15 quid for 2 rounds of tentative boxing and 2 rounds of action simply isn't worth it IMO.
There was a poll on the Klitschko fan page: What do you prefer - showacts or quality fights on the card? An overwhelming majority chose the showacts. Now we've got teenie stars from a stupid casting show and, as chief support, Andy Lee/Jonathan Banks against a blown-up no-hoper usually fighting two weighclasses below.
^^^ he was on the vitali undercard. But unfortunately it means nothing without a half decent opponent
