Class!

 

This really is sad news, that one of the classiest commentators and one of the nice guys in boxing could pass away soon. It would definetly be nice if boxing fans could pay tribute to a man who has served boxing for many years.

 

A commendable final performance in a long, successful career. So glad he got the opportunity. Just a classy guy. He sounded like a boy in there last night, lit with enthusiasm. It was great to see.

 

I was stoked to hear him calling that fight last night. Showtime should have him do Pacquiao Mosley as a real send off.

 

Alot of people rip Charles for ripping fighter's for not getting rid of an opponent. That's usually just when a fighter's in the ring with a guy who's clearly not on his level. When he know's the fighter can take a punch, he usually didn't say anything when the guy would last to the end.

 

Thanks for your passion, Nick.

 

Nick Charles is a legend. It was a bit hard to watch last saturday night knowing that, more than likely, it was the last time he would ever call a fight. It was great to hear him though still have that passion calling a fight and I really admire the courage he has shown. He is a legend and he will definitely be missed.

 

He seemed like an alright guy. Probably led a prety good life as well. Cancer's a horrible ****er.

 

God bless Nick Charles. Let him be an example to all of us with his class and grace.

 

He's been an excellent fight announcer, with a smooth, matter of fact style that isn't often heard these days. Of even more importance is the fact that he's handled his battle with cancer with class and courage.

He'll definitely be missed when he's gone.

 

It was great of Bernstein and Greenburg to let him on to do one last fight, and it was a really poignant moment on Saturday. I only caught the latter end of Nick's Shobox work, but I always enjoyed him, adding character to fights and full of enthusiasm and class. It would be nice if Showtime had an interview or something with him on Shobox next week.

It was a bit tough to listen to him on Saturday though, with it being his last fight. Also when he was talking about HBO's upcoming fights wondering whether he would be alive to see them.

But at least he got to do his final wish, and I hope his remaining time is as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

 

I've been a Nick Charles fan for years, dating back to the Hick & Nick days on CNN. You don't get professionalism like that in sports analysis anymore.

And he was great on ShoBox. Charles and Farhood were more dry and analytical than the announcers for the big Saturday night fights, but for a smaller venue on a Friday night, it was perfect.

He looked and sounded very sick the other night but did a solid job. I hope he's able to go in peace and that he enjoys every moment prior to his death.

Yeah, that was good of CNN to do, but the videos for his daughter are tough viewing.



I posted an idea in another thread of a way for the fans to show their gratitude to Nick...

If he's still with us in say mid to late May, we could all pool together to fly him out to Canastota for the HOF ceremony (where his buddy Iron Mike will be part of the inducted class). They might even let him get up and address the attendees if he's able. He'd probably really enjoy having that be one of his last major activities...not that he probably couldn't afford to do so himself if he really wanted, but presumably all his money is either tied up with medical bills or set aside for Giovanna's college tuition etc. - and it would just be a great surprise for him to see that he had so many fans willing to band together for him.

I don't know...that might be too ambitious (and too reliant on assumptions about what the future holds..). Plus, he may just want to be sure his last days are spent with his family.

Someone else mentioned charitable donations in his name. Even that would be a great thing for someone to organize..
