On the main event radio show this week. very frank and raw. discussed the Calzaghe fight in detail. Does not offer excuses which is what you normally get from a losing fighter and accepts the reasons why he didn't win and why he didn't come back to the level he was at before. I have allot of respect for him and rate Calzaghes win in higher regard after listening to the interview. cannot post a link as you get banned by google main event boxing radio show and it comes up. its on itunes to well worth subscribing. the steve lillis stuff and the beginning is intresting especially when he is discussing eastside boxing forum.
Allot of people have downplayed Lacy since the Calzaghe fight due to his sub par performances. Lacy's interview he makes it clear the the Lacy that went into the ring agaisnt Calzaghe was not the same man that left. The Lacy that beat Ried etc if he had been handled correctly and not rushed into a fight with JC could have done some decent things in his career.
Lazy seems to be a very humble character but has this burning bitterness beneath it all, he needs to get it out of him cos it will destroy him later on in his life...
could be to do with everyone bigging him up initially, telling him how great he was, he probably bought into his own hype and wasnt told the truth. will listen now, is it the one that starts with a john murray/joe gallagher interview?
Really evocative interview. At least Lacy got to a position where he made money before he got exposed and did so afterwards (hopefully still has it). There are those who fight twice a year for five years then get exposed fighting for a southern area title. These guys would be in the same position having earned barely 1% of what Lacy did.
he was better than that. he just got too much of a push b showtime and hbo to make him the next mike tyson. it doesn't allow you to grow it just categorises you. his win over Reid was pretty impressive.
I agree Rob, fantastic show, I havent heard much from Lacy since that fight so it was good to get an insight
Steve Lillis is spot on about the forums, I am glad they are talking about this on the radio shows, more posters should listen to this and understand the damage they do with over the top personal insults that get levelled at boxers. Criticism is par for the course, but the personal attacks and insults are unacceptable.
Agreed Gas, its great to be able to interact with the boxers, opinions are great but personal attacks are unnecessary!
