Is it fair to judge a fighter based on personality? not talking about his fighting ability, talking about whether you become a fan or not based on the way he acts, the way he carries himself? Also, should you as the fighter, have to accept that people will judge you based on that, as it seems a natural instinct for people to prefer a humble person over braggart?

I myself have never really taken as much to ignorant, arrogant fighters, and I can only really put up with the arrogance, when its done tongue in cheek (Ali, Hamed), or when its just confidence and bravado(Eubank), that said, I do like Greg Haugen a little, and he was a cocky little so and so, that said, I just like the tough guy personality he displayed, and after all, he was actually pretty tough, involved in some wars (Paz). Generally I prefer humble down to earth fighters like Ward, Donaire etc.

    Whats your take?

Well people judge wih their heart sometimes because they want to see a arrogant loudmouth fighter get his ass beat. But in the end when a boxers career is over we should judge him strictly on his performances in the ring not on his personal life or how much of a dick the fighter may be.
But I do believe boxers get discredited because they are hatred a lot. But that doesnt mean they wont be ranked rightfully.
For me personally a fighters personality is a important part for rooting for/against him.

In the sense that it's fair to be a fan of whoever for whatever reason you want, I guess.

You should never rank a fighters greatness based on personality, I agree with that, that is just wrong. You dont have to be a fan, but rate him adequately on his abilities.

I don't care because it's all entertainment & ill never be emotionally invested in another man in that way. I may admire the way one fights, but thats where it ends.

I think alot of guys on here just take it way too seriously. It's a business, & it's in fighters best interest to talk **** to **** off the people on here because they are so emotional. It's all about creating interest & making money.

:thumbsup you can see that with a guy like monzon for example, really insane guy with a personal life that is viewed as chaotic, a lot of people would be disgusted by such a man yet we all rate him very highly based on his boxing ability and accomplishments. Which is the way it should be I think.

I become fans of fighters based on how they fight not act, anyhow you cant discredit anything a fighter does inside of the ring because of how they act or what they do out of the ring if that's what you mean.

I endorse what your saying whole heartedly, as there are way too many cheerleaders out there, that said, I think you can be drawn to a certain fighter based on both his fighting ability and persona and not of developed a kind of man love for him, like so many of those cheerleaders do.

How can you be a fan of any fighter who cannot be respected?

I'm a fan of almost all fighters who climb the ring. They put their lives on the line to earn a living except fighters who doesn't have balls to do what comes out of their mouths. I call them ***s.

Hyping a fight has it's limits.

i dont have respect to fighters who thinks his fans are like pieces of ****, like fraud, i will rate him and i know lots of people agree with me, i'll rate him based of his boring achievement at talent if he's already disabled or have parkinson or if he is dead period.

Personality actually is a big part of me liking or disliking a fighter.
If a boxer has a personality I dislike, I can look past it when a boxer doesn't get out of the way of fights, backs up his sh#t and is fearless in the ring.

But I still have to admit, it can have a negative effect on how high I rate the fighter after his career ended. It shouldn't I know but I'm only human (well, maybe half god).
