Prime vs Prime Calzaghe vs Benn

Fairly certain Sugar Joe would stop him early. His resume indicates he had no problems dominating any style.

 

Joe would win, he was more diverse than Benn, Benn was good at what he did, but Joe has more avenues to win cause he can fight different ways, plus he has a good chin and stamina.

 

Joe could and should box the head off of Benn using hand speed, workrate and angles but i can't help thinking that Benn eventually lands a right hand that ends the show...

 

Benn's explosive power seemed to decrease a lot as the fight went on... He was dangerous early.

 

Still people kidding themselves I see by picking Benn :think

 

I do see how Calzaghe's slapping shots could be particularly effective against Benn's low style, but you can't keep changing angle with your feet and re-loading with a hunter like Benn who keeps looking to load and re-set and unleash without warning while moving his body and head coming in. Calzaghe would have to both jab and clinch a hell of a lot, if he plannened a long contest.

 

Mind you, travelling through too much of a gap to clinch and he'd severely risk catching Benn's short overarm right because he was always abit square-on

Calzaghe didn't look that great most of the time, but he made his opponent look even worse with his high workrate. I think the same would have happen to Benn, but I could see Calzaghe hitting the floor in the early rounds.

 

I just can't see them remaining disciplined in their boxing with their styles and attitudes meshing (into a tear-up)

calzaghe's slapping shots ? were talking prime for prime. in his prime, joe could punch. he used more boxing and combinations when his hands turned to mush. that would of ended a lot of fighters careers, but joe showed character and adapted like a true champ. prime joe finishes benn in about five rounds. joe with his hands all messed up, UD.

Suprised Benn has more than three times as many KO votes as Calzaghe.

 

Only thing is Benn opened up way too much to land those bombs. Calzaghe was one of those types that could be dropped repeatedly because of his style, but no one could keep him there. He had great stamina too and hardly gave fighters time to breathe with punch after punch after punch. Benn was a bonafide puncher and stylewise he has the style to beat Calzaghe, but Joe could go toe to toe too. I'd give Benn the benefit of the doubt, but to me it's really 50-50. Benn was not that fast and could be outboxed, but if you went toe to toe with him that's Benn's fight and the fight changes in his favor. Mitchell was also a great puncher, think Bailey, but also fell short in big fights, if it was Benn, it might of been a different result. Joe could be lured into brawls to that's what he liked to do most.
