Helenius' heavyweight record almost as good as Haye's

I was actually surprised that Helenius got the job done with the left hook. Very nice shot that one. Peter seemed to get a bit of momentum going by the 4th, but Robert took over and finished things in the 9th.

I can't say I'm overly impressed compared to, say, Wlad vs Mercer (2000), but he got the job done and seems to be pretty hard to beat. I'd like to see him fight at least one of the top guys before he faces a Klitschko. He might actually be the guy to dethrone an aging Vitali... Wlad would rip him apart though.

 

And yet he's managed to become a superstar ATG heavyweight! :happy

 

Having seen Haye's pathetic 'performance' vs Valuev, I'd bet on Helenius if they fought. But that will never happen - Wlad will dispatch Haye into retirement in June-July.

 

I doubt a guy like Carl Thompson would KO Hellenius. :yep

 

If we just look at things in terms of those two wins, when you think of the fashion in which Robert won and his relative wet-around-the-earsness, Helenius > Haye.

I'm just being an ass, though. But yea, those specific wins from Helenius are much more valuable than the two mentioned for Haye imo.

 

Are you kidding? Helenius has a better heavyweight resume than Haye, much better. Ruiz was an embarrassin 4-4 going into the fight with Haye, and, while a decently rugged fighter, was never exceptional. Valuev has had three surgeries in the last four years.

Peter may have lost a few fights, but he lost them to the Klitschkos and Chambers, a very respectable fighter in his own right. He brings power and ok hand speed to the equation. Brewster was really in the same boat as Ruiz, a past his best fighter, but he is rugged and has a huge punch.

Beyond that Helenius resume is much deeper as guys like Gbenga, Bidenko and Levin are better than Audley, Barrett and Bonin.

 

Seconding this. I thought he looked like a work in progress a few years ago, but he has really turned it on lately. If you aren't impressed by Robert Helenius, you aren't a fan of boxing.

 

It's disgraceful that anyone would make any sort of comparison between Robert Helenius and George Foreman.

I read from one of the other boxing forum that before 9 round was the coach Wegner said to Helenius do as the Klitschkos do and knock Peter out - and that's what happened..

 

No! too many faults for that to happen at this point in time.

 

Good points. I can agree untill "Haye beats Klitschko" . Will not happen, at least I don't think it will. Understand that point as well though.

Forget "almost as good" - it's arguably better.

IMO if you take any combination of 4 of his last 6 opponents (Bydenko, shot Brewster, Oloukun, Tony, Levin, shot Peter) it's +/= the run of shot Barret, Valuev (controversial), shot Ruiz and shot Harrison.

 

I don't see anything special about Helenius yet to get excited about all the hype.
