whan an old man started talking to me about his son who had recently fought at everton sports centre, he also told me he had boxed at the olympics the same year as sugar ray leonard in 1976, he said he was proud to be the only person from birkenhead to have done so. i didnt catch his name but ive just done a check & discovered that a Robbie Davies from birkenhead did in fact compete in the 1976 olympics! what a guy! http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=41860&cat=boxer 1976 Montreal, 71Kgs In the Olympics Robbie knocked out Australia's Wayne Devlin at 0.28 of the second round, before losing 1-4, to Alfredo Lemus of Venezuela. He turned pro, compiling a record of 10-4 (9 KOs), including a loss in a British title eliminator http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=mL7l7baMWH4
I'm pretty sure there was a thread involving Robbie Davies in the Classic Section a couple of years ago.
he was telling me about his sons ABA fight which i found quite interesting and then when he started talking about the olympics & SRL i was like "here we go" haha but i was thinking about it all the way home and felt compelled to check up on it!
class- great to hear a true story for once. I was talking to a lad on saturday who just spoke bollocks for 10 mins really pissed me off. I just nodded my head to be polite but wish I walked away the ****.
