Australian IBF#4 ranked featherweight Billy “The Kid” Dib (31-1, 19KO’s) confirmed to Fightnews today that he is in negotiations to take on IBF#1 ranked Mikey Garcia for the vacant IBF 126 pound title in July in the USA or Australia.

He stated, “We are close to agreeing the finer details such as date, location and venue but we are both on the same piece of paper in that we are committed to fight each other for the IBF featherweight title in our next fight. Both our next fights will be see us in the opposite corner and this is a chance for me to prove I am one of the best featherweights in world boxing.

Its been a new Billy Dib since my loss to Luevano for the WBO title and I am unbeaten in my last ten fights under the guidance of Billy Hussein. This fight could take place in the US but we are trying everything to bring the fight to Australia. We have had some great champions in Australia in recent years and there is now an opportunity for me to take up the mantle left by such greats as Jeff Fenech, Kostya Tszyu, Michael Katsidis, Danny Green and Anthony Mundine.

It is now a chance for me to push Australian boxing to the next level – we are trying very hard financially to bring Garcia to Australia for the IBF title.” The IBF title at 126 pounds was declared vacant recently when Yuriorkis Gamboa was stripped of the title when he failed to make a mandatory re-weigh in for his recent fight with Jorge Solis on March 26th in Atlantic City.

Garcia is going to destroy Dib, but give the kid respect for taking the fight. I thought Remilland was going to be the next big thing untill Garcia dropped him!

    Watch out Dib!!!

It is great news! What is even better news is that we will get to see the grubby, classless little turd brutally punished by Garcia!

I doubt Billy will get to unleash his favorite punch because Garcia will not be hitting the deck. He may get to bear his teeth againa and go the bite! What a maggot this guy is!

Let's just hope the poor kid doesn't get a nosebleed and a asthma attack. Garcia is pretty heavy handed.

April 28th Deadline for Garcia v Dib, or purse bid

by Dan Rafael - Sports ESPN - 8th April 2011

Featherweights Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia (25-0, 21 KOs) and Australia's Billy Dib (31-1, 19 KOs) have been ordered to meet for the IBF's vacant featherweight belt.

The camps have until April 28 to make a deal or a purse bid will be ordered.

The title became vacant when Yuriorkis Gamboa, who also has another alphabet title, declined to defend it when he knocked out Jorge Solis on March 26 in Atlantic City, N.J., in an HBO main event. Gamboa declined to attend a mandated Saturday morning weight check. Garcia stopped Matt Remillard in the 10th round of the co-feature.

Dib's only loss came via decision in a 2008 featherweight title bout against Steven Luevano. Carl Moretti of Top Rank, Garcia's promoter, said he is in talks with the Dib camp.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl

Carl Moretti from Top Rank absolute classic!!!

"They decided to not pursue the vacant IBF title fight against the worst television fighter in history," Moretti said. "HBO wasn't going near it and refers to Dib as the worst television fighter, and I don't disagree. It's a tough sell in today's market. Mikey won't have the opportunity with the IBF in his next fight, but I have no doubt he will fight for a title and win one. Anyone can fight for a belt, but looking good and moving on is where you make money and grow and cement your reputation. I think that passing on a fight with Billy Dib in Staples Center in a fight that would have been ugly to watch was a good move in the long run," Moretti said.
