Another standout memory was when Lewis Beat Bruno. I was abroad in Malta or Portugal (pretty sure it was Malta) and there was hardly anyone over there who was a fan of Lewis (Obviously due to Bruno's amazing popularity) and the news of a Lewis win was greatly recieved at all.
Frank Bruno - Lennox Lewis is probably the earliest, but the first fight i rememebr clearly was Rhaman Lewis 1
Lewis vs Golota was my first memory, watched and read all the build up leading up in fight week, then running downstairs on the sunday morning to read on teletex whether he won or not!!
Probably Rocky IV (if that counts), I remember my mother telling me Rocky beats He-man Very vague recollection of Lewis v Bruno Also memories of Eubank poncing about and my grandad taking the **** out of him First real vivid memory was Naz v Billy Hardy. We all had watched Naz for a few years and a little while before the fight my mother had taken me into the sports shop he worked in and pointed him out. Needless to say the result was an anti-climax.
And me, I remember watching Ali vs Quarry but I'm not sure if it was the first or second fight. I remember the Cooper vs Bugner fight.
Watchin my fathers Mike Tyson and Muhammed Ali video's. Boxers, I think they were called. He probably got them in a magazine. I remember on the Tyson video was the Berbick, Spinks and the one of the Frank Bruno fights. The Ali had the first Sonny Liston fight and the Rumble In The Jungle.
should a 6 year old have been in bed when it was on? my memory was that it was really late. Was Hearns V Leonard in 89 on ITV in the middle of the night? I watched that on black and white as well at a mates house. I wouldn't be surprised if I have mixed the two fights up in my brain. But I don't think I could be convinced differently at this stage.
getting taken to a boxing gym from my dads cousins boyfriend(some sort of amatuer champion) @7/8 beacause i told my dad i wanted to learn karate ended up never doing boxing or karate went to football training instead
I think both fights were on 8 til 9.........borderline for a 6 year old if you came from a boxing family!! My Old Man used to get me up for the radio broadcasts of the really big fights!
Nobody watched boxing in our house....I am amazed. It may as well have been midnight as far as I remember. Thanks!
Early 70's watching Ali fight somebody, don't know who. I was about 4 and thought it was great, just wanted Ali to hit the guy.
