Obviously Conn was no bum. I don't know where the others were ranked at the time. Anyway, those were the bum-of-the-month fighters. One fighter a month, it ran for 7 months, and Louis beat them all.

There were other challengers Louis fought outside of the bum-a-month tour who were of dubious quality. For example, Johnny Paycheck, Jack Roper, perhaps Harry Thomas.
Galento was a "bum" in the sense that he lived a bad lifestyle for a fighter : cigars, beer, hot dogs, spaghetti, and more beer !

the worst chalenger was harry thomas who lost to max schmeling and roscoe toles, the only names on his record.

un ranked jack roper was on a 5 fight run including a win over patsy peroni but the previous year hed lost 4 times.

the balding johnny paycheck was made to look prety hapless against louis but only had 3 losses from 41fights and did beat al ettore and king levinsky.

 

tyson may be the most knowledgeble fighter who ever lived. probably not the wisest, but he knew his facts, and he has been known to offer a fair bit of insight too.

 

Yeah, the ****** ear-biting wife-beater and assaulter of geriatric retired people was a real good bloke!

 

He knew his facts, but Ali and Frazier being bums in Louis' time probably wouldn't qualify as a fact.
