So I had my first unsanctioned amateur bout as part of an intra-club tournament. I lost. However, I couldn't help but feel that I'd scored more points, and rewatching the video, I still feel that way. But it's also possible, I suppose, that I lost the fight due to how tired I was. I was told that I lost the fight 2 rounds to 1. Could anyone here do me the kind favour of confirming or dismissing my supersticions? [I'm the one in red] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QBTrqj5gvE[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD2-lQQ4SoE&feature=related[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eEVusgNlgM&feature=related[/ame] I realise that my left arm should have been kept up, I was caught rather flat footed most of the time, and I didn't throw any combinations whatsoever. In fact, I was just keeping him at bay with the jab the vast majority of the time. I also left myself vulnerable to the uppercut, leaving my chin exposed, and was thus punished for it several times. I consider myself to be a defensive, counter-attacking type boxer, but my movement is quite linear in that although I can move back and dodge that way, my sideways movement is poor. Which is a problem, given that the "ropes keep getting in the way". I know I did quite badly (I have my excuses), and any constructive criticism would be appreciated. Thanks.
You lost, no worries, nobody cares. Even if it was a real bout, who cares? You clearly have a lot of learning to do, but it's good that they're getting you these experiences. You'll start noticing a lot of progress as you keep at it. You touched his face possibly a few more times, but not many of them were actual scoring punches. Try not to lean back, that'll help your punching form a lot. When the target is taller than you, you have to whip your punches over and down or around to score well. No pushing upward at them, it won't score much. Also might want to take some more time and really work on the fundamentals of your punches. A lot of it turned to just swinging of the arms. The other guy didn't seem as athletic as you, but he punched correctly. Also, condition. You were wayyy too tired lol, but it's your first real taste of a fight so no worries.
Telling people they won when the judges go against them leaves them with no reason to improve. You see trainers do this all the time. The trainer doesn't want to look like a bad trainer and it sooths your ego. "I won but the judges robbed me"
Not all your punches are connecting clearly, you got him with a few good ones but alot were with the side of the glove etc and off his guard. It needs to be a really clear shot like he was getting to score a point. Its unsanctioned though so win or lose it doesn't matter, just improve on this and land clearer shots next time. Skipper
aberdeen uni boxing...classic keep at it, improve your fitness so you can work on stuff when sparring/fighting rather than having to focus on being tired and saving energy
You lost and took a nap on his lap at the end. Improve your fitness and everything else you did wrong. You're not going to get any better dwelling on the judges decisions. Forget big combinations. Work the 1-2 all day until it's crisp.
you need to master your basics man. forget the combos, as upandcomin4 said. go for the one-twos, jab, jab, jab. dont forget your stance, youre like a child in a pillowfight on that vid. if you dont want to get hit, cover your damn face. you dont have defense. sorry for the criticism dude, but it's the best for you.
