WELLINGTON, NZPA - All Blacks centre Sonny Bill Williams is to take on a boxing bout in mid-season on behalf of earthquake-devastated Christchurch.
Williams announced his fourth fight ù his third as a professional ù on June 5 in Auckland yesterday.
His Christchurch-based Crusaders team will be sitting out their bye in the Super Rugby competition that weekend.
Williams has yet to find his opponent for the bout, dubbed the Clash for Canterbury.
"I'm looking for another credible opponent," Williams said.
Fifty per cent of pay-per-view revenue will go to the Christchurch fund while Williams will also make a personal donation of $NZ100,000 ($F140,088).
"I earn a good living as a sportsman ù I feel morally obliged," Williams told the conference.
Williams is unbeaten in his previous three fights against Garry Gurr, Ryan Hogan and Scott Lewis.

Any ideas who he is fighting?

I read yesterday he said he was giving 100,000 from HIS purse, which begs teh question, why is a guy like this getting that kind of money for his fight? I have a mate been boxing for over 25 years been a pro for 11 and he gets like 5,000 a fight

    Nice work by SBW :good

Promoter will need to get 2 or 3 thousand through the door and sell 8,000 odd PPV to pay SBW and the event....good luck to them I hope it goes well

He is getting that sort of money because that is how much money the fight can generate. He is an all Black in Rugby Mad NZ in the middle of the Super Rugby season on a weekend the crusaders have off so there will be plenty of supporters wanting to watch the fight so it will generate big big money, The reason that Solomon egberime only gets $500 per fight is because his fights are not generating enough money for him to get more. Its like saying my mate has been singing for 20 years and only gets a thousand a gig singing at the Pub and ****** beber who is a youtube hit is getting millions, beber might be Crap and your mate might be fantastic but who generates the income

Thanks mate, you are spelling out the obvious, my point was that it is a load of **** and he should not be getting that kind of money for these ridiculously easy fights he is having,

Most promoters around the world pay fighters according to their pulling capacity....SBW gets lots of bums on seats so he gets paid more....that's the facts....can't change the way the world works mate

I agree far better fighters are getting a heap less then what SBW is getting however if he has a fight and it generates this income who should be getting the money then, I agree the undercard fighters should get a bit more but withour SBW there is no show and no money at all for them, he is generating the money why shouldn;t he get the money
