How do the WBC view Kessler's status, is he regarded as 'Champion Emeritus/In Recess' or something?

Vitali Klit was endowed with similar during his four year break and was permitted a straight shot at Sam Peter on that basis when he returned

Good news, surely. He's still got a bit to offer but is clearly on the downwards slope looking at him against Froch. Though any win over Froch is good. It was mostly just done on strength and aggression rather than the quality he used to have. I firmly believe he's lost some speed. He's also not as sharp as he was when he was boxing regularly, timing is erratic and he used to time punches superbly.

Any one who doesn't like Kessler is a terrible human being.

As TFFP states above he has lost a little of everything and as a consequence is having to rely more on strength/fitness/experience and plain determination these days

The fights with Ward and Froch were both draining affairs, his face was damaged in both, he's had a potentially career ending injury and by the time he fights again over a years inactivity

I hope I'm wrong but I feel he is going to struggle on his return and I would hate to see him get beaten by an opponent he would have handled with ease a few years back

I personally feel he should have retired as 'World' champion after the Froch fight, it would have been a fitting end to a fine career

Yes, Kessler turned down the opportunity of getting to the Super Six final because he was scared of fighting Allan Green. Beating Froch is one thing but Allan Green is a whole other kettle of fish.

The Kessler that beat Froch would knock out Bute imo.

He's not the force he once was (he even looked poor against that Perdomo guy before the Super 6 commenced), he probably only has a couple of fights at top level left in him, his face is falling apart so EVERY fight is a potential risk (including Alan Green) even in beating Green it could have been a damaging encounter (to his face/eye/body) thus reducing his chances of success in the later stages of the Super 6

He is now in a position to challenge the eventual winner OR challenge Bute and if (big IF) victorious there challenge the Super 6 winner as IBF champion

No one is questioning the mans courage, his withdrawal from the Super 6 was an expedient career move

If he did fake the injury, which I don't believe he did, he would have taken the handy pay day against Green and then opted out. He had just beaten Froch for crying out loud, how could he have doubts about beating Green. There's no doubt he's not the fighter he once was but he can still mix it with the top guys.

I don't think he 'faked' the injury it's just possible the injury wasn't as bad as claimed

Great win that it was the Froch fight was hard on Kessler and may have 'emptied the tank'

If he only has a couple of fights left in him (possibly only one), what does he go for, modest money against Green, BIG money against Bute/Super 6 winner?
