    Three knockdown rule in effect maybe? Maybe Cortez had just seen enough and didn't think Kirkland was in any state to continue, because if he got up there was always the chance he was going to get knocked down more violently next time.

    Dude. That was three hard, legitimate knockdowns all bunched together and Kirkland never looked all that steady either of the times he got up.

    Even if the 3KD rule isn't in effect, that **** is open to interpretation at the ref's discretion and a lot of officials would stop that. You can say maybe a few wouldn't, like Smoger maybe...but that was no terrible stoppage.

    Boxing needs guys like Kirland and Lemeiux to bring some excitement back to the sport. Its not good that they both got stopped the same weekend in the long run. It was gonna happen sooner than later tho
