The James Kirkland Stoppage was Bull****

He went down hard on three legitimate knockdowns (not one of them was a "flash" knockdown) in the span of what...30-45 seconds?

Meaningless flash knock downs do occur in boxing. In fact, they occur with some regularity. They do not happen three times in the span of about 90 seconds.

 

I didn't say he wouldn't have gone back down... I'm saying he would have gotten his ass back up and kept fighting. Who knows what the corner break would have done for him... It was only like 1 minute left in the round right? My thing is at least give the dude a chance to clear his head. He could have survived the round... If the break in between rounds doesn't help then stop the fight.

 

Just watch 1:59, 2:53 and 3:25 nothing off balance there all hard shots.

And the chicken dances / stiff leg jives that he performs. No chin, no legs, no chance. Mo problems.

Or just knock him down badly a few times in the first round. Its boxing, its got rules and a referee. For his own safety (which was clearly in question) the fight was stopped. Not only was it stopped, but it was stopped while Kirkland was laying on his back for the THIRD TIME in about a minute and a half, put there by a guy with 6 KOs, ZERO of which until now came in the first round.

And don't compare this fight with the Conyers fight. Kirkland got dropped in that one and came back to drop Conyers in the same round. This was clearly not happening against Ishida, Kirkland was in trouble from the moment he got hit on the chin for the first time.

In theory they could. Even multiple times in a round to a fighter (slips that were called kd's, off-balance kd's, fighter's hand touches down a couple of times, etc.)

But none of these instances apply to Ishida-Kirkland. JK wasn't only getting dropped, but he was also being staggered and rocked with virtually every punch that connected. Plus each kd was more definitive than the one before.

So, with a minute still left in the round, it's quite conceivable that Kirland would have hit the mat at least one or two more times, and may well not have gotten up from one of those kd's. Good stoppage. The fight, such as it was, had already been settled.

 

Nothing unreasonable about the stoppage......

 

When you, exactabox and Jacory Harris are in that 30%, then this is not one of those times

 

Look man it was a short fighter fighting a taller fighter. Kirkland also crouches down he walked into some shots none were that hard as evident by the fact Kirkland got up in the first second or two. I was happy to see an upset but in all fairness there is no reason why Kirkland should have been smothered by Joe Cortez when he was on his way up again within 2 seconds.

I could understand if it was a beating over a number of rounds but I just cannot accept this as a good stoppage from a fighter who has been down and got up each time to win especially based on the quickness of recovery 2 previous times.

 

You guys really wouldn't have let dude try to last the one minute left in the round? He got up each time, was very responsive and although rocked when hit didn't really seem discouraged or hurt enough where he couldn't continue. I understand TKO stoppages when it seems a fighter has no chance but I don't think we reached that point yet. No 3 knockdown rule, fighters have been dropped 3 times in a round and were allowed to continue..
