If you think DAVID LEMIEUX is just a hypejob, this is what HBO had to say after....

...Friday night's fight. HBO certainly think Lemieux has great potential.

The following comments come from Kerry Davis (HBO Vice President) and were sent to David's promoter :

" I just wanted you to know that our interest for David is still very much there. He's a very exciting boxer for television. With a little more experience, he beats Rubio anytime. It's only a minor setback on his path. Please give David our best wishes. "

Let him prove himself in the ring 1st, like actually beating a Rubio caliber of B- level contender. It was a good humbling experience he can always look back to and push the gym work even harder, for me it looked like Lemieux believed his own hype a little too much and ignored the corner to go for the KO that never came.

David needs substance over style.

 

These things can happen when you're only 22... You can't buy experience and that could turn out to be the best thing to occur for the long run.

 

guy has a crowd pleasing style and now that he seems to have a shaky chin it adds to the excitements either he takes the other guy out or he gets smashed to bits...............drama; fireworks good for the sport.

 

He was winning the fight, he was just surprised that Rubio had that strong of a chin lol.

 

he has the tools, this loss hopefully will be a learning experience for him. he needs to learn to defend himself better. he is awfully offensive which can be dangerous to counters. he needs to learn to pick his spots more, have a more planned attack, instead of swing for the fences all the time.

 

I'm a fan. And I believe he has the potential to become great.

But I just want to point out few things here.
1st: With all the attributes of the world that DL has, he still need to be polish. We just not jump in the future and assume right away that he will become great because that is his destiny, it is just not. He has to earn it by working hard and well.

2nd Being a fan does not have to mean a fanatic...

3rd As a TV channel, it is in the advantage of HBO to hype a guy and you can be quite sure they will hype Lemieux if they show his fight. HBO showing interest mean more that he will be hyped than anything.

 

Sometimes though, HBO support = hypejob.

 

The guy has tools but will remain not become anything decent with those poor strategist in his corner. Flat out disgracefull performance in the strategic sense. He gets with someone decent enough to show him how to use his feet and move his head while being offensive then he will be decent.

 

I think the Rubio fight is just a learning experience. Lots of fighters lose. In fact most do. Everybody needs to experience a close fight or even a loss in order to grow. Look at Khan. He lost and has turned things around nicely. In fact most believe he is the best at 140 (personally i think bradley is). I just think David has some learning to do and he will be just fine. He is always going to struggle a little bit with his height disadvantage at 160 and that will make for a very interesting and exciting career.

 

Where does Lemieux go from here? Who are the likely opponents?

 

Rematch, Ishida, Jacobs, or Kirkland? maybe they are too big a step up, but I would like to see any of these.

 

He need s better training and seasoned sparring partners

Hell yeah, he could be the Tommy Morrison of the MWs! I still like Lemieux. In fact, his vulnerability adds to the excitement he will generate!
