Is it worth pubs splashing out on PPV?

I'm not sure what the corporate PPV charge is. Could probably find out though...

 

I have worked in the trade for over 10 years & managed various bars & pubs.

As a golden rule for anything you spend on entertainment you need to take 3 times that figure over the bar just to break even.

PPV costs a lot. Its worked out by sky according to how much you pay for your license, which is in turn calculated by the size of your premises & number of TVs.

When I was the steward at a big working mens club the PPV for Harrison-Haye was about £800. As a big boxing fan I couldnt convince the committee that it was worthwhile & would turn a profit so we didnt show it.

 

The cost to pubs differs.

It is based on size and value of pub.

I.e - it will cost walkabout a lot more than your village local.

 

it all depends but its alot harder to sell boxing than other events. It dosnt help that many of the big cards take place at 5am and to generally have a full pub at that time youve either got to have a **** R'N'B pub or sell cheap as **** booze.

 

Nah because 99% of the uk would rather watch a 0-0 draw between Hampsted Heath Rovers and Bridlington United than Gatti/Ward

 

It cost my local £250 for Haye Ruiz

 

The landlord in my local told me it is between £150-250 for a PPV. Haye vs Valuev I think cost £240 and Khan vs Salita was £160.

If you can bring in the punters with names like Khan etc then yes it is worth it. On occassion when me and three or four mates have gone to the pub and spent an easy £20 each then thats from one set of people alone coming to watch the fight.

Pubs have got **** atmospheres now. There are few fight pubs. The PPV has the sound down and its only raised for the main event. Boxing fights should be events/occassions but they aren't anymore.

 

Rileys always shows the big fights and they must be paying a bomb for it with all the teles and the size of the premises that they have but on fight night it is always packed

 

only big fight ive been out at the pub for was haye - ruiz , the place was packed but then again it was saturday night and it is always packed saturday night . the only advantage i could see was it stopped people going home to watch it and then going back out or going to another pub that was showing it

 

Rileys dont pay because its a snooker hall, theres some loops in the system

 

is the price measured by square feet or something?

i watched khan-salita in a pub, was ok, small screens, quiet old man pub but **** fight and degale slapping king about
then i watched haye-ruiz at a smith&jones busy pub, a chavvy version of wetherspoons and the fight was on big screens but i was surrounded by idiots(being a boxing snob) who knew ****all and music was played over the fight anyway.

i dont like watching boxing at the pub really as if i drink i cant remember what happened earlier in the fight, my concentration goes to ****.

 

It is if they can pull in the people to watch it. I remember going down the local to watch Haye-Valuev. The place was jampacked.

 

ive been to the circus casino in ediburgh to watch a few fights and its alright but there is too many daft wee fannies who are shadown boxing and think there david haye ,puts me off but if i want to see a fight and dont wann pay for it its always a viable option
