It was down to a number of factors which came into play perfectly at the right time, put it like this if he came around in Beijing he wouldn't have been such a huge name. His Gold Medal match with Kindelan got 15,000,000 viewers in the UK that is incredible.
Fury Rahman could've done if they'd have done it properly and had a proper build up to it. Not offer Rahman the fight on two weeks notice.
the way i see it, khans financial team (his family) are a bunch of greedy *******s and are holding everyone to ransom. they need to thank there lucky stars that freddie roach decided to take khan on, he's the sole reason khan is a world champion today. if i was khan i would tell his dad and cousins to stop making money off his back and go and get a real job.
Absolutely BANG ON! :good Most people I talk to about boxing; if Khan is mentioned 9 times out of 10, his 1st round KO is mentioned. More people know that he get KO'D1 than know he is a world champ. April 16th should've been Khan v Prescott, I don't care how **** hes been since then or how **** the undercard is Sky would NEVER have pulled the plug. Actually **** it, get it on ITV whatever the cost and show as many as possible that he is a) better than Prescott; b) has the bottle to face "his nemesis" and c) he is a bona fide World Champ. If he'd done this future PPV sales would be massive!!
it was khan who went to warren and asked for a certain amount of money from his fights. warren decided that if khan wanted that much it was time he got of ITV and on to PPV because that was the only way he could make the money he wanted. warren did alot of good for khan, he gave him more exposure in his early career than I can ever remember a fighter getting, hatton never got exposure like khan and nor has degale got it up to now.
quality post i keep trying to think why khan is so special but i cant put a finger on it. Guess its just timing
Its earlier then that. Its the Prescott, ***an time he should he been on normal channels if not free to air but instead was inexplicibally on PPV being watched by one an and his dog. Khan was huge around 2006 fighting domestic level guys on ITV but through the media aspect of his management his popularity has faded badly at a time when ironically his boxing career is on the opposite trajectory.
adam smith really isnt doing a very good job is he. the whole khan ppv, haye vs wlad debacle takes the biscuit. this **** takes the biscuit further and to top it all off... WHERE THE **** IS CARL FROCH!
Its true but the other cards all had something meaningful on the undercard. Thats the issue not McCloskey as an opponent. Also remember this is a new regime at sky. Doesn't matter what mistakes they made in the past they made the right call this time.
I actually think that Smith (or whoever made the call) has done the right thing here. We all complain about rubbish undercards and i'm glad that somebody has finally taken a stance and said no more. even though the fight has ended up on an obscure channel, this is for the good in the long run. Look at the golden boy card from last weekend - 4 or 5 really intriguing fights that people wanted to watch. People aren't fussed about Rendall Munroe against a cabby etc. good on Sky i reckon.
Sky saved Khan a PPV date without an opponent and they didn't want 2 PPVs in one month. Wlad vs Haye should be on this saturday!!!
Sky did the right thing but its too late. They messed up months ago when they saved Khan a PPV slot with no opponent and no undercard. GBP and Khan should have presented a card to Sky that fits in with their programming and then Sky should buy it. Otherwise complete shite will be offered, just like it has been.
