    LAST STAND OF CHOC MUNDINE

After a polarising 11 year career Anthony Mundine 40 – 4 (24ko’s) is well and truly at the crossroads....another loss to Garth Wood would almost certainly force Choc into retirement and even a win on Wednesday night still leaves his career on the ropes.

Like most people I also believe that Choc could have gone on and fought better fighters. In 2007/2008 Choc was in his prime and while on paper he won the regular WBA SMW title he essentially wasted the best years of his boxing career.

With Choc’s hip visually impeding his everyday motion not to mention his sparring and his movement in the ring, this fan wonders if he will fight again no matter the outcome Wednesday.

Love him or hate him (and most of you hate him) I have enjoyed being a Mundine fan as he was gifted with exceptional boxing talent, premium boxing pedigree and speed to burn in attack and defence.

In his prime he dominated Danny Green and put up a brave show against Ottke and Kessler.....end of the day Choc ran his own race and had the guts as a high profile NRL player to test his chin in the boxing ring....and to go 12 rounds with Green and Kessler I take my hat off to him

Come on Choc....go out with a win :good

Geez, you're just asking for it mate, wait til the forum nazis, CHB and IBR get a hold of this. :hey

But to stay on topic, yeh I am one of the haters, but I can see this fight is very important for him. Irionicly, it shouldn't be.
He needs to win in convincing fashion or he's screwed.

If his hip is as bad as you say, then like you said, he's pretty screwed anyhow.

The way i look at it is its pretty much a no win situation, Garth isn't gonna go anywhere on the world scene, I dont think anyone would argue that point with me, and Choc hasnt been the fighter he was for many years and will also not make a dent on the world scene, this is more about chocs ego, if he gets Ko'ed again there is no excuses this time

I was always a Mundine fan and still have a soft spot for him but the truth is what Ash said, Mundine wasted his prime completely. It was strange to hear commentators and observers of the fight scene saying "he is still improving" of a 28, 29 and even 30 year old fighter but in Anthony's case it was true. I think most would agree Anthony hit his peak mentally and physically in 2007 after the Green and Soliman II win.

After he KO'd Soliman he should have attacked the world scene. Whether that was going to America and using his belt as leverage, droping to MW to take on some of the bigger names like Taylor, Pavlik and Wright or accepting his mandatory against Kessler.

But as we all know he abused the belt by making absolute jokes defenses, had 3 major injuries with the bicep tear, eye and hip and then destroyed his body by draining himself to JMW to avoid the challenges of Kessler II and Geale II.

At this point he can no longer be considered the fighter he was. Anthony never had great boxing skills as he relied heavily on athleticism. But at 36, all the injuries and a lack of quality opposition along with a half assed attitude in training Anthony has lost his physical talent and mental edge. My only hope now is he can get back the Wood loss and retire soon with money in the bank. Choc and Khoder bled the game enough, Anthony should look after himself now and pull out.

Mundine has enjoyed a prosperous but controversial, and many would argue disappointing, career.

He certainly hasn't endeared himself to the Australian boxing public, particularly during the second half of his career, nor to the boxing tragics who measure careers in terms of legacies left, not dollars made.

The most accurate thing Ash said above was:

'He essentially wasted the best years of his boxing career'.

and I'm glad even a self-professed Mundine nut-hugger like Ash can actually see that, and understand that's why the Australian public who'd previously supported Mundine abandon him in droves.

After promising world domination following the Geale bout. Then last fight in Australia, last Australian opponent, US invasions etc, etc, and deliver instead Falliga, Medley, Jerez, Waters, Wood and Wood, what did they expect?

Charles Manson apparently was a good bloke also when you got to meet him :patsch

soliman 2 was clearly his peak. major down hill since then and wouldn't have any chance against any legit top 10 contender in any weight.

his only move from here is to put on weight and see if that helps. I don't want to see him retire, I want to keep seeing him get KO'd to be brutally honest :thumbsup

... and yes I have met on 3 ocassions the bloke and didn't mind him as he actually seemed quite humble, but play with fire, you get burnt!!!

So for this fight, it's the old hip injury that's being wheeled out as an excuse...what, the 'blind in one eye' excuse isn't getting a run this time?
