exactly !! ... it also takes your mind off of other punches because he's so effective with it. He also has a great body attack and a great jab to the head ... it's just a matter of when or if he chooses to use it.

yup floyd use the jab to the body agist the late Corrales. Floyd had Chico reacting to the jab to the body at will, so much so when floyd step in chico would automatically drop his hands to cover his midsection, and floyd would blast him with a left hook that dropped chico. and then finally the over hand right..

Shane used to setup the right hands that blasted margarito out ..

The jab to the body serves so many functions. Range control, rhythm disruption, scoring blow, body work, etc..

Its his most beautiful punch in my opinion. His whole bodyweight is behind this punch, unlike an Ali or Sugar ray style jab to the body which is more of a flick jab just to set up other power punches.
Its great because he nearly always throws out a decoy jab to the head then falls down hard to the solar plexus. when he was lighter this decoy jab way almost a half jab or exagerrated feint. But If you watch him against Bruseles, he has perfected it to the point where he just sticks his decoy jab fully extended with no power on the top of Bruseles head ,then he drops it down and stabs his body, all in one movement as he hops in with his entire body behind it.

Anybody who says a good solid jab to the stomach does not hurt has never felt even a decent one. When aimed at the pit of the stomach it does hurt(especially with bodyweight behind it) and hurts even more as a counter where you can't prepare for it. Just like a jab upstairs, one alone doesn't do much but they start adding up, it's just that the uneducated out there assume the same thing thing with all other forms of bodypunches: Just because there is no visible damage doesn't mean none is being done. If they're reacting to it in any way shape or form then it's doing its job.

Once they start reacting to it(it's like getting poked in the stomach with a broomhandle with someone's weight behind) it opens up other punches. It's a SORELY under used punch in boxing that sadly only the elite fighters utilize the most. No I'm not a Floyd boy at all(admire his skill but hate his reluctance to consistently take challenging fights and his grating ego problem). but I will say he has one of the best jabs to the body out there(Andre Ward's is good too)

Like another poster said as well, why don't more Klitschko opponents jab to their body? Their heads are to difficult to score on with their height and lean back defensive posture so jabbing at their stomach is much more effective.
