More like Calzaghe hid behind the Warren Boxing Organisation belt for a decade in the weakest division in boxing then opted to overcome his fear of flying when Jones and Hopkins reached their 40's.
it a funny how many responses this douche got. didnt he get knocked down by a shot to **** jones. lol @ slappy
That was not a blow from the glove that caused the knockdown. If the ref had noticed it was Roy's forearm bone that hit Calzaghe he would have had to give Joe up to 5 minutes to recover. (But Roy was totally clean and did not try to hit Calzaghe illegally. It was totally accidental).
Calzaghe would be clowned by prime Jones. Not necessarily KTFO but defeated convincingly. Same goes for Michalczewski. IMO.
Which is fair enough. It was a big fight where Calzaghe wanted good money. Jones wanted 10 mil to face Calzaghe, Hopkins wasnted 6 mil ie The Crown Jewels. But look below. Go to 6:45 Calzaghe had been chasing Jones and Hopkins for a couple of years [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jVrFZDxZS0[/ame]
So Tarver who was thrashed by Hopkins who lost to Calzaghe would have beaten Calzaghe and D Green who lost to Mundine who was schooled by Kessler who Calzaghe took the 0 of would also have beaten Calzaghe atsch. I dont think so. There was a glove query that Jones had with Green also. Calzaghe got knocked down, so what he wasnt out on his feet or having to hold on, he got up and fought on and ended up schooling Jones. Knockdowns happen, Ward, Dirrell, Dawson all got put down by journeymen and were worse off than Calzaghe being put down by the then #6 LHW. Jones got put down by Del Valle who couldnt put down Girard, so what, who won? Calzaghe showed how even when faded and with brittle hands still managed to beat Jones
Pre-Lacy Nobody in the states even knew who calzaghe was. Its easy to forget that, but its true. Hell, Lacy was even a bigger name here. I suppose Roy was ducking Lacy too?
Prime Jones has too much for Joe, but he's decent enough to hold his own; it's not a mismatch. By the time they did fight anyone who was any good was knocking Jones out cold, yet Joe couldn't even drop him.
Tarver and Johnson. Both of whom would be comprehensively outboxed by Joe. Joe is the only fighter in the last 15 years to figure out and fight better and better as the rounds wore on against Hopkins, a guy who had always previously been the one doing the figuring out. If that fight goes 15 Joe would have cruised even more than he did. Calzaghe was a special fighter and that's made all the more clear based on Hopkins success in subsequent fights. Give Calzaghe his due.
That was the great thing that Joe out skilled Jones and didnt just blast him out. Though you fail to mention that Tarver couldnt beat the worse version of Jones first time round and was taken the distance by Jones in their rubber match
