Jason Booth-Kiko Martinez In May

Purse bids were won by Rimer Box a Spanish promotional group.

 

Fight will be April 15th in Plaza de Toros La Cubierta, Leganés, Madrid. The fights will be:
Kiko Martínez-Jason Booth EBU superbantamweight
Joaquín Céspedes-Shaun Doherty UE superbantamweight
Gregorz Proksa- Pablo Navascués UE middleweight

 

Looks like a decent step up for Proksa.

 

Martinez will win this.

 

I think Martinez will KO Booth.

 

In case of Booth don't want to fight in Spain, Kiko will fight JOaquín Céspedes.

 

Booth is a quality operator and I've a lot of respect for him and he is 1 of boxing's success stories. Here is my case though and I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

1> Kiko has improved since the Munroe fight. He has worked on boxing more and brawling less, but he has the power to hurt anyone if he lands.

2> Booth has had a very elusive style which has meant he rarely got tagged and is great at reading his opponents and reacting fast.
Thing is though he is slowing down a little in my opinion and has passed his peak. The style he has can be found out very quick if he loses the pace a little which comes with age. At the lower weights I personally think boxers lose their speed earlier then the heavier fighters.

3> This fight is in Spain and Kiko knows he won't have to chase the fight in his hometown. He can keep those power shots in the reserve tank for the latter stages. The reach disadvantage he has previously had against others in the division is neutralised now with Booth and they are the same size more or less. Combine these 3 factors and I think you have the increased probability of Booth coming forward a bit more rather than countering which could ultimately cost him.

To be fair the Booth he has the thinking to get himself out of trouble and the experience. If he still has the speed and reflexes to complement his boxing brain then of course he has the chance to nick this. I just slightly favour Kiko here but I think Kiko will hurt him. I need to see the odds here to see if it merits a wager.

 

Booth is an amazing little fighter and has defied the odds again and again. But I think the spanish location is the deciding factor in this one. If this was happening in the UK I'd see Booth winning by a couple of rounds. As its in Spain I see Martinez winning by a couple.

Booth's close points loss to Molitor looked good until Steve got mauled by Ndlovu (a man he'd previously KO'd and decisioned) last month.

I'll be screaming for Booth but think Martinez will nick this one
