This aint true AT ALL imo.

Prime tyson was a beast. Sure he was an in-fighter, but he wasnt dumb in the ring. He had superior head movement, wasn't easy to hit by any means, etc., cut off the ring extremely well.

I'd say Katsidis right now. Maidana doesn't show me a whole lot as far as ring iq either.

 

B-Hop and Floyd are the easy answers for today's fighters. I think Ray Leonard is up there too - He was great at neutralizing opponents, learned from mistakes, and took advantage of opponent's weaknesses. As far as pure boxing intelligence, love him or hate him, Floyd Mayweather defines greatness in this aspect of the sport. The reason Floyd doesn't watch tape is because he truly doesn't have to. He studies and makes adjustments during a fight. B-Hop is a bit different, because I think he comes to a fight with a solid gameplan every time (see Tarver and Pavlik fights for instance), but gameplan is the key word. Floyd, at least from an observer's perspective, really doesn't require a gameplan - it's why he's so difficult in rounds 6-12 - once he has figured an opponent out, he's nearly impossible to beat.

 

after he got rocked, he did not come forward immediately. he used the remaining of the round to hold on shane and recover. i don't know if it is intelligence of just his instinct to hold on to survive that round. after that round, he then started operating but that was also the start of the rounds that shane gassed.

 

he is speaking about ring IQ the guy has been boxing all his life and know the game even if he is an idiot outside of the ring. The guy has made millions while you are trolling on internet forums so I'm not so sure that he is so stupid after all.

 

So in your opinion, then, Mayweather's instinct is to avoid physical confrontation?

 

Because income is directly proportional to intelligence, right?

people are always underestimating pac's ring IQ and generalship. pac has shown that he can adjust without going to his corner. in the cotto fight, he started to lure cotto in the middle of the 2nd round so just to end the jab fest where cotto is actually winning. pac adjusted and used the rope-a-dope to test cotto's power and at the same time to give cotto some confidence unto a slugfest.

No he hasn't Zab was very athletic and had the ability to beat him to the punch and he found a way to beat him without using pure speed but rather skill and intelligence. He walked Zab down and broke him down.:deal

I agree with you about Hopkins a legit case can be made for him having the highest.

 

Maybe you should have started by defining ring IQ so that we can understand the context of this statement.

 

i don't know about the end of the round but will have to check it. floyd started offensively after the 2nd round if i remembered it correctly.
