There's pretty much always good stuff going on in boxing. The reason we don't see more threads about "small fights" is that we have to many posters who are only fans of 1 or 2 top guys. They are not experienced fans of the sport as a whole, and can't really talk intelligently about top 25 or 30 type fighters.

This past week end Rubio/Lemiuex was the fight I was most looking forward to, and I thought it was an amazing fight. I had a great time watching Rubio demonstrate patience, ring intelligence, and skill that few ESB posters knew he had.

And hats off to El Terrible. I honestly thought he was going to take a beating. Nope! He went out there and showed us why he is a living legend, and the personification of the term "Mexican Warrior!"

I've always been pretty impressed with your posts. I wish people would recognize what a great era we're living in a little bit more.

Here's some real talk about real fighters, in a post by a fan of the sport as a whole.

Over at the place where they Hype Fights there is a very interesting, in-depth, interview with Kelly Pavlik. Kelly told the writer the same thing he told me on Face Book. If Sergio Martinez would agree to meet him at 166 pounds, he would "take that fight in a heart beat."

Now here's the rub. Martinez keeps calling out these smaller guys like Floyd, Pac, and Cotto. Floyd belongs at 147 tops. Pac would probably be at his absolute best at 140. Cotto is at 154 now, but Miguel was actually a small welterweight. Martinez said he can't make 154 anymore, and won't fight under 156. He's a full fledged middleweight now who weighed 170 pounds when he entered the ring to fight Dzinzurik. Nevertheless, Sergio's supporters justify his actions by claiming he deserves a big pay day.

Pavlik will get a ton of exposure on the Pac/Mosely PPV. If he handles Alfonso Lopez the way he should, we'll see a whole new crop of Pavlik fans out there, and a lot of those fans who abandoned him will jump back on The Ghost Train. He'll be a big money fighter again.

During negotiations for Pavlik/Martinez II Sergio would be in the drivers seat. He'd be in a position to set-up the biggest pay day of his career. All he has to do is agree to do for Kelly the same thing KP was happy to do for Jermain Taylor: Give him a rematch contracted at just 6 pounds above the middleweight limit.

Now here's a question. Is there any real reason for Martinez to avoid this fight? If so, what is it?

I can't see Martinez avoiding a fight with Pavlik. It's a good name, has a good story, and would surely bring good money. The 6 pounds shouldn't be a factor either. I'd love to see that fight.
