Who has been more impressive vs their best opponents: Maravila or Calzaghe?

I enjoy Martinez's style much more but we cannot be comparing their careers yet and Calzaghe had the better opponents at the top three and beyond. Martinez had a horribly inopportune career, legacy-wise and Calzaghe the opposite. I think Calzaghe's the more impressive considering his opposition (although the BHOP fight was an ugly tragic comedy to actually watch). The Kessler fight is probably one of the best Super Middleweight title fights I've seen and Kessler is really a fine, fine fighter and Joe showed a class above him down the stretch.

calzaghe's wins are more impressive because the opponents have more quality while martinez wins look better because they were beatdowns and knockout victories

So many things are wrong with your post man! :nut

    - I didn't "miss" several great wins from Calzaghe's career, I made a thread about either man's top three major wins/performances, not their whole careers

    - I scored the 1st Martinez vs Williams fight to Sergio by 114-113, therefore to me it's a win

    - Martinez obviously didn't look "BS" against Cintron. If he did, then Calzaghe looked even more "BS" against an inferior fighter in Robin Reid

    - Dzinziruk did not "hit Martinez all night". That's simply not what happened at all. Have you even seen the fight? Dzinziruk had 2 decent rounds, and in 1 of them landed a good number of shots. The rest of the fight? Completely dominated by Martinez. Only someone with an agenda could downplay a dominant performance punctuated by 5 knockdowns against a guy who'd never been KD'd before, and who was anticipated to be a stylistic nightmare!!

    - How is Kessler better than anyone Martinez has beaten? :huh Paul Williams was a long-time p4p top 10 fighter before Maravila got to him - Kessler was never in the p4p top 10 in his life. Kessler is inferior to Williams and on the same level as Pavlik

    - :patsch Why make a point when you don't even know the facts? Martinez and Pavlik don't and didn't come in at around the same weight, Martinez was 167 and Pavlik was 178. 11lbs is a massive fightnight difference by any standards. I don't understand the relevance of mentioning Hopkins vs Pavlik here at all

    - If Dzinziruk has "3 or 4 dodgy decisions over gatekeepers", then please name them and detail exactly how you know this and why you think so. I suspect this claim is the same as your point over Martinez & Pavlik being the same weight - ie, bull****!

    - Kessler most definitely did land more on Calzaghe than Dzinziruk landed on Martinez. Easily. Dzinziruk had 2 good rounds, and landed a lot of shots in 1 of them. Kessler controlled the 1st third of the fight with Calzaghe, and remained very competitive until the late rounds. Compubox (or anyone with any sense) would confirm that robotic, predictable Kessler landed more on Joe than a crafty technician like Dzinziruk landed on Sergio

Is Dzinziruk @ 160 really one of Sergio's 3 best wins? That in itself speaks volumes.

Dzinziruk is easily more technically proficient than Jeff Lacy ever was; and is equally accomplished, going by resume and career achievements.
