Now that Hatton has retired...

    Have all of you Hatton Huggers finally come to the realization that he wasn't a great fighter? He was a good fighter who never really fought the best opposition @ 140. He skated through the 140 div. in the 2000's without facing guys like Cotto, Zab, Witter, etc.

    Hatton would have destroyed Judah and Witter. Considering how weight drained Cotto was, it's not impossible to imagine Hatton stopping him either.

    I'd pick Hatton over Witter, maybe Judah, pick em with Sharmba Mitchell, and loses to Cotto.

    All you need to know is prime Hatton would beat the best 140lbers today Bradley, Khan, Alexander, Maidana, Judah, and likely stop most of them

    He was unbeaten at 140lb for a long time for nothing.

    And one more thing, If you think boxing is all skills then It's official that you don't know **** about boxing.

    It's clear the OP is a wind-up artist looking for attention. Of course
    Hatton was a great fighter, he only lost to 2 ATG's in there primes.

    As for the fighters he ducked at 140. please! Cotto when healthy at 140
    would've beaten hatton on pts by boxing, but judah? WITTER? **** off

    Ottke never lost to anyone, is he a great fighter? I think not.

    If that were true, then how come he didn't do it when he was fighting? Based on his actual career, he would've avoided those fighters you mentioned.

    Stellar rebuttal. I'm sure you were one of the Hatton huggers at the time who justified him fighting Carlos Maussa since Maussa had just won a title, right? Hatton's career was hand-picked opponents. We saw who Hatton really was when he stepped up in class and got absolutely embarrassed by Pac and Floyd. Hatton wasn't competitive in either fight, and that right there shows just how average he really was.

    The people built him up too much post hamed era. He earned his respect beating an old Kostya but he was never going to beat two titan welterweight fighters in Pacquiao and Mayweather. He should of been more humble and kept on fighting. Mosley, Oscar, Cotto, Judah, Maidana, Khan. Why didnt he face Morales or Barerra? Ricky was a great showman, exciting fighter who hung them up too soon.

    Hatton was competitive at least vs Mayweather until the KO. He nearly scored a kd in the early going, only Mayweather's good balance prevented it from happening.

    You have a very odd definition of competitive and kd. There was never anything closely resembling a KD to Floyd and Hatton nary landed a clean punch all night. The only reason why YOU THINK it was close is because there was a lot of clinching in that fight in the first half of the fight. And I think that was Floyd's strategy to be perfectly honest. He knew Hatton was gonna come crashing in so he beat Hatton at his own game and out-clinched him. Later on in the fight, he drowned him. Why? Because Mayweather is the smartest fighter in the sport. I've never seen anyone outsmart him in the ring.

    Well, I don't know how many of you were following boxing on the internet around 2002-2005, but at that time Hatton had a massive, fanatical following. More than any fighter I have seen - way more than Pac, Wlad or anyone now. We were constantly hearing how he would beat Mayweather, Cotto etc...so for me I always think of him as an overrrated fighter. But now...he might actually be a bit underrated. He has a string of wins against solid world class fighters, a signature win over Tszyu, who while a bit past his past, had just beaten Mitchell in what at the time was billed as some sort of superfight. He gets a plus for not fighting on and on as well. Oh and I reckon he could have been a beast at 135...but his between fights lifestyle, as is well documented, was not conducive to that.
