Kelly Pavlik: "I'd take that fight in a heart beat!"

Last week I had a conversation with Kelly Pavlik on Face Book. In the course of our discussion I ask KP if he would take a rematch with Martinez at 166 pounds. Pav said; "I would love for that fight to happen at that weight. I'd take that fight in a heart beat."

Yesterday the web site where they "Hype Fights" published an extensive, in-depth, interview with Pavlik. Fight Hype ask KP if he would be interested in fighting Martinez again if Martinez would would meet him at a 166 catchweight. Pavlik said; "I'd do it in a heart beat."

diBella said Martinez will NEVER fight Pirog because Pirog is a nobody. We all know there is no way in hell Felix Sturm would take a fight with Sergio. Martinez does not have many money making opportunities at 160.

Sergio weighed 170 pounds in his last fight. Pac correctly believes Martinez is to big for him. Floyd won't fight Martinez when he can fight a safer opponent for more money by fighting Pac. Sergio's opportunities for big money fights are drying up very quickly. Nevertheless, there's a career high pay day just a "heart beat" away.

On May 7th, against undefeated Alfonso Lopez, I think KP will look very good in front of a very large audience. That should put him back "in the money." A second Pavlik/Martinez fight would be a big deal with a big pay day attached, and during negotiations Martinez would be in the drivers seat. He would be in a position to set himself up for a career high pay day. All he has to do is agree to fight a guy he already beat once.

At a contracted weight of 166 pounds the weight difference on fight night would probably be less than the 11 pounds it was in the first fight. Martinez could probably even get a rehydration clause so KP agrees to weigh no more than he did in the first fight.

Other than the fact that Pavlik is not a natural welterweight or junior welterweight is there any other reason for the middleweight champion of the world to avoid this fight?

i don't think pavlik is good enough at this time to ask for a rematch.

You think Chavez jr at 160, or Cotto at a 156 catchweight is more dangerous than Pavlik? Or, what about the other guy Martinez/diBella talked about; the great Peter Manfredo, is he more dangerous than Pavlik?

I think we just have to see if he is. Actually, a Lopez fight will only be telling to most of us if he looks bad. If he looks good, I wouldn't know the difference between him looking good because of Lopez and him looking good because he is healthy and viable. If he picks up a title, it gets more enticing for Sergio (a third division title). Stieglitz is there...I wonder if that could happen. Pav/Stieglitz.

Lopez hasnt fought outside of texas has he? KP will win inside 4 and it wont tell us anything unless he goes in with someone half decent we dont know how much is personal issues have taken out of him. Pavlik needs a someone who can push him a little a brian vera trype of fight

Martinez is too small for any fighter over 160lbs. He should be fighting and calling out guys his own size like Pacquiao and Mayweather.

Pavlik needs to just stick to coming back successfully and finding out what his proper weight is(around 168-175). He's too big for Martinez now and is irrelevant for the moment.

I wish Pavlik a good comeback, mostly because it would mean he is sober and stays that way. But he should learn from the past, overconfidence cost him dearly when he decided to fight Hopkins. He should get two tuneup fights, find out his best weight now and then consider a world class opponent.

Pavlik needs to sober up. He will be lucky to ever matter again.

I think a rematch (if possible) is a great matchup

People tend to forget that Martinez vs Pavlik was actually a pretty good competitive fight up until the later rounds.

IF they fight at 166 catchweight my money would still be on Martinez but Pavlik could give a pretty good show again. Having said that Pavlik should just concentrate on his return and finding good fights at 168 (Dirrel, Stieglitz, Bika??) and wait till super 6 is over for the super fights

Until we see something from Kelly other than a double jab I would take Martinez by UD all over again ..The problem is deeper than Pavlik its his cornerman !
