How many times a year do you expect him to box for the record?

It depends on how he is going to be stepped up over the next 12 months really, if he is fighting for titles such as the British or Commonwealth then I would say 4 would be a decent amount, if not then I would say 7/8.

You're nothing but a WUM for posting this at the time you did...been waiting 4 weeks to post to this have you?

OK I'll take your bait ...the future of Irish boxing is looking great, take one look at our amateur record and that is clear.

For a small nation our record is outstanding.

Proud of all the lads and they'll all be back to do better things...plus Frampton, Macklin and Lee.

Looks great to me. And I will enjoy following them.

I think it's in a good state with 2012 being a very defining year as to whether our cream of amateurs will go pro or stay am.

McCloskey proved a lot of people wrong last night. A lot of people lost money on him (expecting a 3 round max fight) by Khan not ending it fast.
McGee was at the end of his career anyway and Casey is still at the start of his so neither were expected to win. Lee is in for some exciting fights win/lose or draw and some interesting prospects to look forward to include

    1> Jamie Kavanagh
    2> Steven Ormonde
    3> Dean Byrne
    4> Carl Frampton
    5> Willie Casey
    6> Jamie Conlon

The exciting prospects in the AM ranks are

    1> Joe Ward
    2> David Oliver Joyce
    3> Con Sheehan
    4> Paddy Barnes
    5> John Joe Nevin

There are more but these 5 are most likely to go pro.

I'd say the fans have a look forward to given that while Brian Peters may struggle to get tv dates Frank Warren is growing his stable with some Irish fighters and may be able to put on some shows here. :good

Irelands main problem over the next 5 years in not talent.

We have one of the most talented crop of amateurs in Europe and for a country so small that is an amazing fact. The Commonwealth Games proved that when guys that wouldnt get in the Irish squad went out and got golds and the Europeans was an amazing success.

Our main problem is that, like the UK, the mainstream media does not have a champion in our corner. RTE couldnt give a toss about boxing and only show it because we have been so successful in the amateurs.

Exposure is the keys to growth and building stars.

I think most of the Irish action over the next 12 months will be in the UK

Is Nevin likely to go pro? Or is that just a guess?

All these fighters are uk born and only of Irish decent! the best fighter from Ireland since Collins is resting in peace unfortunately, he would have spanked Degale and Groves imho. Possibly could of gone on to rule the smw for years and years such was his ability and adaption to the paid ranks.

Slappy and co can all stop these stupid rematch threads and stop posting diatribe as 'their' man got ****ing stripped round after round and looked basic, hell id even matty hatton to do him on points and kell brook to ko him...
