Khan was the same as usual, fast and scrappy. He is not anywhere near p4p contention.
Our most over rated boxer by far.

 

Khan beat Maidana who beat Ortiz who beat Berto, but Maidana struggled against an old Morales, but Khan beat McCloskey with a dubious cut decision but won every round. Bloody boxing eh?

 

It was bad night... but Khan doesn't seem to have improved since the maidana bout.

Khan still does far too much shoe shining / pitta patta punching rather than the kinds of power shots that earn respect. And Apart from hurting maidana eary on, he couldn't get the respect of Maidana that made would make him backup... and a shot morales achieved.

He need to put more inot his punches, in particular his jab. I liked that guerrerros jab from last week against Katsidis. That was a sweet jab that kept katsidis off him for the most part. Khan need to really put a good stiff jab into his opponemts fac/body. I know McCloskey was mainly staying out of range and Khan had to move forward to make the fight as the other guy was hardly throwing, but as was mentioned by Robin Reid and it's a trait I always see in Khan fights, he has a big problem of lunging in leaving himself wide open for good counter shots.... both maidana and McCloskey didn't take advantage of that. Khan also squares up and pumps both his fists walking/falling forward... hardly looking scientific in the process.

A Clever fighter like Bradley would have studied Khan and made note of these errors in his game, And I'm pretty sure If he does repeat them, Bradley will make him pay for such basic errors.

So overall, Bad night, poor stoppage but Khan can move on. Is he in the pac/mayweather league yet? - On that performance definately not. Can he beat Bradley? Maybe, but he needs to improve and cut out the flaws in his game. Bradley throws some great counter rights from the shoulder role ala James Tony and I can see Khan getting caught with a few if he tries does big head hunting shots... Bradley is elusive maybe moreso than McCloskey, especially bradleys upper body movement - Bradley will also be throwing more leather back unlike McCloskey.

 

mccloskey is all ****ing mouth, he fought more out of the ring then in the ring. khan was not amazing but mccloskey was **** poor.

 

I've just watched rounds 1, 2 and 3 again, and on second review, Khan's peformance during those wasn't that bad. He coped well with an awkward southpaw who came with a very negative approach. I'm trying to watch the rest of the fight now

 

What are you on about? I thought you saying McCloskey winning in a rematch was laughable so you question the method in which Khan obtained it?

I'm starting to think that the Roach effect has worn off and maybe Khan has reached his plateu. Well see, but the Bradley fight might be to soon for him, maybe another tough fight before a showdown in the winter. But its hard to go against Roach and he does have confidence in Khan's ability.

Another thing, regarding ''sitting down into his punches'', since moving to Roach Ive not seen Khan use the heavy bag in his training. Thats a key tool to improving power.

I've just watched it YouTube with English commentary, and on second review, Khan dealt with him pretty well, and was getting stronger. He had him rocked in the round where the clash of heads occurred, and when questioned by the doc and referee, I can see why some would think that McCloskey said he couldn't continue. He wasn't responding like he desperately wanted to carry on. He looked confused, out of place, and had little reaction when the referee waved it off. He only started protesting once his corner told him the cut was nothing.

Whilst it was a crap stoppage, you can't blame Khan and Roach for thinking at the time that McCloskey didn't want to fight on. Because he inadvertently gave the impression that he was really bothered by the cut.

 

As a big Khan fan, I was disappointed to see Khan not use his jab more often. The kind of lightning and accurate jabs he used against Malignaggi.

 

Khans feet are simply abysmal, and will stop him becoming a far better fighter than he will end up being.

Hw should stick to just jabbing or throwing one-twos, anything more and he's squared up with his hands down, painful to watch.

 

Khan's performance wasn't very good. We all saw that.

But McCloskey beating him in a rematch?

Grow up.

He wasn't able to win a single round against a bad looking Khan.

The only person you need to feel sorry for is Paul McCloskey. He just didn't fight well enough to deserve a rematch and his promoter acted like a **** afterwards.
