    Until tonight.

He lost this fight. No amount of BS they could pull could save him tonight. He also lost to Luis Collazo and got a gift. That fight exposed all his deficiencies. Should have given Collazo a rematch, but I understand why they didn't.

What's with all this "Mayweather was scouting Berto for a tuneup." How do you guys know this? He couldn't have been just watching a fight?

As for DiBella this is what he said about the fight.

“There were no losers when you out on a fight like this. I’m very proud to promote this fight.”

“Yesterday would have been the 39th birthday of Arturo Gatti. Arturo Gatti would have been very pleased of the fight tonight.”

Ortiz also claimed that he injured his wrist against Maidana... didn't know that if it's true.

I dont agree with your conclusions here (HBO wanted Ortiz to win, Berto vs PBF wouldnt happen), but you make some good points. Thanks! :good

berto has always been technically flawed, but thankfully, he lost in a good fight. this is a great thing because they make fighters come back hungrier and better. the worse thing that can happen for a boxer is to win a fight you lost, because it will not make you any better. maybe now, berto will understand he needs to work on his technical skills and come back to rise to the top of the division. he has the physical attributes, just needs the mental attributes. this loss was the best thing that could happen to him.

Solid points, and they make sense to me...but still, I can't explain why they were trying to hand the fight to Andre tonight by spotting him two points (the uncalled knockdown int he first, the bogus point deduction later on) if that's the case. If Berto wins 2 more rounds on the cards, he wins tonight even though Ortiz was clearly in control most of the way.

The ref's officiating was solely on him. Not much Home Box Office could do about that either way.

Not pointing the finger at anyone in particular here but reading some of the threads and responses just highlights some of the mongs that inhabit ESB. Berto, who was apparently never any good anyway gets a slating for a sole professional loss. Whereas Ortiz is a legend for beating someone who was just hype?? The fact is that most people called Berto for his lack of quality opposition but he is by no means a mug. Neither is Ortiz. What we had was a good clash of styles and a FOTY candidate in which both men proved their class. Berto did well to climb off the canvas and he looked brilliant in patches. The turning point came when Betro, who had thrown everything at Ortiz, couldn't put him away - not only that but ended up on his ass when he probably thought the fight was his. Ortiz wanted it more and wasn't going to be denied. He just had too much for Berto last night.

Didnt expect Ortiz to pull off a performance like that, didnt think hed be so comftable and natural at 147 either.

I think most real boxing fans got what Berto was for quite a while, hes no bum, hes good but little flaws in his wins against average opposition we all knew against the real big boys of the division would train on exposing all these little weaknesses that he didnt really know he had.

But didnt really think it would be Ortiz showing them up. And Ortiz was just doing what Ortiz does, nothing amazing just solid honest fighting.

    Well done Vicious Victor.

With a pic of PED man as your avatar hard to take you seriously. Berto is in the same B league as Margarito and Clottey. And at this point Berto is more live than senior citizen Mosley. Legit fights?

    My thoughts have been confirmed:

    http://fighthype.com/pages/content9746.html

Floyd was there looking to make a bout with Berto. It blew up in his, DiBella's, and HBO's face.

Fight Hype, by the way, is basically Floyd's main internet mouthpiece. If they said Floyd was looking to fight Berto, you can take it to the bank.

Floyd was so distraught at the blowing-up of a Berto showdown, I heard, he left the arena before the decision was announced. Rough night for him, with the possible Berto showdown torched and his being booed while Manny was cheered.

How was Berto over rated? Who rated him highly after his "loss" to Collazo and fighting every 140 fighter and beating them by hugging them?
