but i think Frank Cappucino allowed Gatti and Ward to fight past 'potential stoppage' moments due to their proven heart/ chins in past bouts.
and its a good job he did!

 

NO, JuanMa on ***** street eventhough he's still punching those were weak reactionary punches. Ref was only waiting for 1 more power punch from Salido to land and it did.

 

I agree with this. It was a little premature, but not too premature. The referee was just being compassionate. I'd have let it go a bit further to give Lopez the maximum chance of landing an equalizer, the guy had done well to stay up as things stood and deserved that chance, but I don't really have a major issue with the ref seeing it differently in this case.

 

This is a very strong point. I do agree that Salido was robbed of scoring an "Alfredo Angulo-Harry Joe Yorgey" style KO.

 

Good stoppage, Salido landed nearly every power shot there. Matter of time he'd get beaten very bad and probably stop his career for a while. I'd like to see a rematch.

 

I didn't watch the fight yet, so if Juanma was down plenty earlier in the fight then yes it was a good call; if not then bad stoppage Juanma was still swinging and on his feet

 

Or, you could just wait til you have seen the fight then comment once you have a clue what happened?

 

It was an OK stoppage. I said yes -it was a bad stoppage because I rarely like to see a fighter get stopped while they are still punching, but Juanma's punches were pretty weak and Salido was dropping bombs on Juanma. He wasn't gonna last much longer.

It was timed improperly.

He was tagged with a big right earlier where staggered to the corner (the one he was like running forward towards the post) and was crossed eyed or appear to be closing his eyes. But it took took a while to connect a big one that he appeared to recover, but he was throwing by instinct.

 

I think it was slightly premature. Lopez was fighting back but he was trapped in the corner and Salido was hitting him flush.

The ref was waiting for Lopez to take the mandatory puerto rican knee that eventually happens every time a Mexican fights a puerto rican. Lopez was so out of it that he forgot about the knee so he had to step in and save his countryman from the highlight reel Ko that was about to happen.

 

This is a catch-22 for the referee.

There was never a clear moment where he could just step in, but Juanma was out of it from the knockdown on. You could see it in his corner, he couldn't even sit up straight and his eyes were gone.

Somehow, he survived on instinct and heart, but even when he was coming forward hitting Salido, he was getting countered. And then he just ate too many f*cking punches.

I think it was a great stoppage! When you're so far out of it, I believe punches hurt you more. Now Juanma can collect himself and come back to fight another day. Getting the sh*t knocked out of a fighter has never been beneficial.
