golden boy need to bring him through properly and not **** it up like they nearly did when they sent him in with maidana, but you could argue that he wouldn't be the fighter he is today without that fight, but if they mess it up again he might never be able to mentally recover. he should not be in the ring with mayweather or pacquiao for some time, if golden boy want him to fight someone next it should be... Berto 2 (this time andre gets put down and stays down) Quintana Collazo Abregu Mike Jones after he has had his 1st defence then it is time to move up a level, remember all these fights at 147 Khan Maidana 2 Bradley Judah Cintron (if he can still make 147) after he has dispatched them he is then ready for... Antonio Margarito Miguel Cotto Shane Mosley Paul Williams then he would be ready for pacquiao and mayweahter. Discuss:deal Who next for Ortiz?
I want to see Cotto/Ortiz sooner rather than later. Remember, he's the champion now, so people will come after him
It would be nice to see him matched properly for his own future, rather than for a quick exciting buck for the promoters. I'd like to see him have a gatekeeper fight or two then try and snag one of the good 140 pounders under the welterweight limit. Then move onto Cotto though that fight will be hard to make as Cotto probably would want it above the welterweight limit. If Ortiz can sharpen up his defense and rein in his wild aggressive tendency a little he will be much better, i'd like to see him given some time to do as much.
if that fight happens next cotto comes in as a small favourite because of his experience, ortiz needs to take the fight when its right for him. ortiz is not the finished article yet, with 12 months of hard work he should hit his peak at 25, thats when the big fights should come.
if ortiz vs margarito happens in 14-18 months HBO should pull all the **** out with a 24/7. if the story is told properly between victor and richard - danny and richard - and the fact that its between two exciting fighters would be immense. ****ing imagine the face off with ortiz richard and danny.
don't think it was for a title, just a tune up and to see how he feels and the weight so it wouldn't feel weird if the pacquiao or mayweather fight popped up.
Eventually, Khan and Bradley will go up and challenge Ortiz for the title. The WW division will be packed again. I see the winner of Khan/Bradley bout to go after Ortiz.
ortiz was at the back of the line at 140 so he decided to create his own queue. now its time for khan and bradley to line up and wait for their name to be read out. :deal
if khan beats bradley then he says he plans to fight at 147 and ortiz will be waiting for him. as far as cotto i think he will always be a welterweight, he is at junior middleweight but that isn't his weight class, he looks chubby at 154. the advantage that ortiz has over most fighters at the weight is that he can do both box and fight in close. he can adapt his style at different stages of the fight.
I would keep Khan away from Mike Jones. Not a good matchup for him. Actually it would kill his hype immediately. Mike Jones is everything that Ortiz can not handle.
i've only seen mike jones fight soto karass in the first fight, from that if that fight ever hapened jones wouldn't make it past 6. i've seen that he has fast hand speed but ortiz would just bully him. khan for someone who went to the olympics at 17 makes some amateur mistakes. there was a point in yesterdays fight where khan was throwing punches with hs feet moving forward like he was walking down the street, no boxing technique at all.
the thing with europeon fighters is that it won't be easy to sell, for ortiz i think the best thing to do is get him a well known fighter who he can impress against. collazo, quintana and malignaggi are all well known fighters who ortiz shouldn't have too much problems against, the toughest fight would pobably be collazo and it should stylistically be an entertaining fight.
