Berto is nowhere close to Jones, as a matter of faact I think Jones KO's Berto.

Jones has fast hands, can actually box, can in fight, can take a punch, and also has power. Terrible stylistic matchup for Ortiz, who has trouble with boxers.

Mike Jones can be a pure, high output boxer. He needs the right game plan, IMO he can beat Ortiz. He'll bust him up.

Like what boxers? Lamont Peterson? Ortiz should have kod him, and would have if the pre maidana version or last nights Ortiz, had showed up.. Ortiz made that fight harder than it should have been, and the fight shouldnt have been a draw... Even though ORtiz gave away rounds i still ahd him winning by 2 points... Im wondering if cutting weight afffected him, as he somewhat gassed and didnt do much at the end. He showed great stamina last night in a brutal taxing fight... Peterson got an uninspired Ortiz with no fire and so did Campbell(even though he still dominated).

Besdes that the only "Boxer" with solid credential that he fought was Arnautiois who he blew out in 1 round... ORtiz has good boxing skills, he just happens to be a better puncher and more appealing to the fans/Fun to watch.... WHen he resorts to boxing he seems to be shortchanging his true capabilities.... ORtiz has to find a perfect medium, and hell be hard to beat by boxers or punchers.

Ortiz is a very capable fighter, but he's a good measure short of being great. Let's not get carried away.

Following the Maidana debacle, I found myself repeatedly defending Victor against idiots claiming he was a "coward" et al. Now I have to stand athwart the rapidly accelerating "Victor is great" train and shout, Halt you *******s!

Im think that was just a mental lapse and he lost a little confidence after the Maidana fight.. A re you talking about the Peterson,Campbell fights? Well he dominated Campbell(buit fought uninspired)

Peterson was the only close fight i recall.. Before Maidana he was blowing by eveyone and won a few wide decisions... Actually Ortiz should be undefeated.. Obviously his fight with Maidana was a legit loss, but for the most part he was beating up Maidana, and only got caught because he fought Stupid,, and gave a big puncher the only chance they had. One draw was 1st round technichal... His other loss is a one round disqualification. And He beat peterson, i dont any one who thinks peterson deserved a draw.

Mike Jones will try and pot shot his way, but not against a Possesed ortiz who will chase him and take him the ropes and corners and batter him up with uppers and combos and hard left straights.

The same Ortiz showed up last night that was there against Peterson. Except Peterson was at a severe weight disadvantage, and he recovered from his knockdown. Peterson kept Ortiz at bay with his jab and had enough power to hurt or atleast get Ortiz's respect when he tried to jump in and land power shots. I wouldn't put Aranoutis in the category of a boxer in the mold of Peterson or MIke Jones.

Ortiz has good inside fighting skills and technique, he doens't jab enough, doesn't move his head enough, and really doesn't adjust throughout a fight though for me to think he could handle what Mike JOnes would throw at him. Ortiz is just not effective at fighting at a distance and because of his lack of want to work behind a jab to get in, he is going to have problems with a 6ft tall long armed fighter like Mike Jones who will pick him off and make him pay, but who can also take what he dishes out because he has a good chin himself.

    :huh

That wasnt the same Ortiz.. victor laid back on trying to finish off Peteson after dropping him.. Early on it looked like an easy fight, then all of a sudden , he deides to turn into a past his prime Hecor Camacho sr, i believe Peterson didnt stun(or minor hurt him) until the end.. Thats the only time i saw peterson doing anything effective and that was cause Ortiz gasssed(got gun shy).. .. Victor didnt fight with any firre like ha had in previous bouts.

As far as Jones, yey i hear you.. I think style wise he can pose problems, cause hes so tall and mobile plus hes strong.. He a huge WW but even though he impressed in the second Karras fight.. I want to see him fight some other good fighters..., Karras is a gatekeeper and beat Jones the first time.. KArras is tough but one dimensional. . With Jones style and size its not that remarkeable of a win to figure an aggressive one dimensional puncher like Karras. and look good.. I thought i recall Karrras hurting Jones in the first fight :huh

Looked the same to me. The only difference in this fight and the Peterson fight was that Berto has a terrible chin and never recovered and kept getting rocked, unlike Peterson who recovered and had the ability to fight smart. To top it off, you talk as if the 2nd half of the fight wasn't a hug fest and Ortiz finished Berto off, who was there for the taking. I think Ortiz took his foot off the gas in the fight, when he could have pressed and KO'd Berto, with intelligent pressure.

As for Mike Jones, he didn't get hurt by Karass in the first fight until he gassed himself going for the KO in the 2nd round. The fact that he was gassed completely but able to withstand the pressure and make it to the end of the first one tells me he has the mental toughness to and chin to make it in tough fights, an ability Berto never showed.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree on the "new" Ortiz that was presented last night.

He's co-promoted by Top Rank... Russell Peltz is his promoter... Plus Jones has plenty to gain from beating Ortiz... This fight could happen... But if they were to fight, Jones wins...

What was troubling Ortiz later in the fight was them body shots Peterson was throwing....
