I think that would depend on how the fight with Pac goes. IF he were to give Pac all he wanted and look good(even inlosing) this would be a good win for Ortiz.. If Shane looks shot or gets dominated... Not such a big win.
I dont think Pac would get a straight Knockout over Shane but , im thinking he will stop him... FOr as good as Shanes chin is i dont think its as good as Margaritos and Shane is goona take more punishment than Clottey. Hes not exactly a defensive fighter and hes not gonna fight like a scary ***** liek Clottey, there fore hes gonna be open to clean big shots. I still think Shane has a very good chin but its also got wear and tear and i think its dentable and could be a matter of time before it cracks. Mayweather didnt hurt him bad, but at times i think Shane was bothered and not liking it ... Manny will throw more punches than May and he hits harder..... I think Manny and Mayweather are both underated punchers but Manny has more ko zip in his. Pac Tko 9 Ref jumps in.
Most people already know Pac is going to mess Mosley up bad, hes already has gotten dominated by mayweather and couldnt beat mora, and most people still think he mops Ortiz.... losing to Pac, even badly, wont change that, unless its such a horrific beating that people question mosleys health. The fight will get promoted, people will forget, and people will, like they are now, after mosley showing his age and havent have won a fight in two years, will be picking him to win. Even an old, shot mosley, who just got beat up by pac, and who most people would still be picking to go even if not beat Ortiz, would be his biggest win, and raise his stock. But, just imo. I see your point though. Obviously its better if Mosley looks halfway decent vs pac.
I dont know i think Mosely is lucky to be even getting another chance against the pfp best ... He was dominated by May.. Fought a boring draw with Mora who is not elite.. To me if he gets beat down by Pac.. He doesnt even deserve another shot.. I like Mosely but if hes not competetive and takes an ass whupping he should retire, and if he doesnt, i really dont believe a win over him would be a big win... Theres other young guns to fight that would look better on his resume.. Unfortunately even if Shane gets beat up by Pac.. He wiil keep fighting.. Shane is a lot like Holy and Duran boxing is in his blood and will probably keep fighthin well into his 40s.. Even if hes shot. And if Shane does give Pac a good fight.. Cotto will be the next one he will fight(if he can get by Margo). Im sure he wants payback for the close loss, and he would get paid more. Or maybe they could make a Margo rematch? Margo might want payback, then again Shane might be the boogeyman in his nightmares
No Please No. SSM is like 90 years old now, he needs to be in the broadcast both, his time has come and gone. I wouldn't want to him in there with a beast like Ortiz.
You and me both... I agree that he would deserve another shot, especially against the top elite level fighters like Mayweather, Pac, Martinez, ect.... but Ortiz, even though he just scored the biggest win of his career, against a very good fighter, is still very much a young type fighter.... not really an established champion type. So in a way, I do see this as a 'get back in line' fight for Mosley, and dont see it as a shot to anything really. Granted, I suppose its a known name that hed be getting a shot at. True. But I think that that would be ok enough, losing to pac, the best fighter in the world, shouldnt exclude Mosley from being able to fight the guys a few levels down. Ortiz is not a p4p fighter that Mosley would be getting a crack at, or even a number 1 in a division type guy. It would just be a crossroads type fight for both.... which I think would be the logical next step for both mosley and ortiz. Which brings me to this, I am not really looking at this fight from the Mosley perspective. I am looking at it from the Ortiz perspective. Ya... Mosley might not deserve to get a known fighter in a big HBO type fight after he loses to Pac.... I can agree to that, totally. But, I think Ortiz deserves to get a chance to fight a well known name like Mosley, in a 'passing of the torch' type fight that will be a fairly well promoted HBO fight and that will bring Ortiz some good exposure, regardless of Mosleys standing at this point. So in a way Im kinda looking at this as Ortiz getting the shot, to increase his stock a little bit in the casual sports world. Because whether we like it or not, the casual sports fans lag behind whats really going on by a lot, and all they will be seeing and hearing is that this new kid Ortiz is on fire right now and just beat Sugar Shane Mosley..... and Ortiz maintained and gained some good momentum, and by then, there will be a lot of fights for him to choose from. I suppose Mosley vs Cotto would be a realistic fight, but I really dont see why Cotto would take it at this point. It would still be a semi dangerous fight against someone hes already beat and whos stock is falling. Cotto is already a brand in the sport.... while the fight wouldnt completely surprise me, I just dont think we will see Cotto vs Mosley 2. But who knows. Now, Margo vs Mosley 2 would be nice. But as for Ortiz.... So many fights out there for him. But, I see what your saying, and it makes sense.... I just think it would be a nice crossroads fight, and a good chance for Ortiz to get some more exposure before taking on another dangerous fight (not saying mosley wouldnt bring his own danger, just look at the thread and many have mosley stopping ortiz) but in boxing, those big names always carry some weight way after they stop being relivent. And I think it would hold true in this fight. And it would give Ortiz some time to prepare in what direction he would go next.... there are so many good fights out there for him, for the division, and for boxing. You don't play with your left hand dangling when you've got Mosley throwing his right hand. Ortiz could very well win on his determination and sheer accumulation of punches, but its just as likely Mosley catches him with some hellacious right hand.
