Mayweather already had a multi-fight deal with HBO, HBO has been waiting for Mayweather to talk to them about his legal status. So anything you head over the radio is most likely nothing but gossip. Top Rank on Pacquiao's deal with CBS is only a 1 fight commitment. HBO desperately wants Pacquiao back. So you can expect some kind of bidding war if the PPV numbers end up being compariable. A lot of people on the forums often take fiction for fact.
Arum isn't happy about the power and influence Golden Boy and Al Haymon are excerting on HBO. He has every right to be upset with all the preferencial treatment given to them and their fighters over everyone else. He is not allowed a level playing field at HBO. In protest he took their biggest cash cow to their rival network when a better offer came up. Hopefully the Pacman/Showtime/CBS deal is a huge success and something good comes out of it for boxing.
1. Free for viewers does not mean free for broadcasters. Free broadcast, if popular enough can actually mean better for boxing as it can increase revenue and exposure. 2. I take the less cycnical and hateful view. Pac has fought pretty much everyone at 147. There is none left except to go down in 140 or even 135 - where there are less popular revenue generating fighters. Even Khan had issues with his recent fight in the UK. Alexander is an rebuilding process. Bradley has yet to build a base to justify himself in PPV. I am not saying these guys are not good comp versus Pac, they are and I hope Pac fights Bradley someday. But to say people are getting bored that is because the mainstream is really interested in the PBF vs Pac fight. Much less so with any one else. Even PBF has not fought Cotto or Margarito. So there is still interest for him to fight another top WW.
Can you point me to this legal action vs HBO. I can't find it and since HBO is a private paid cable service not sure what the grounds would be for his lawsuit. Or are you talking about the old one when HBO wanted to drop Mayweather regarding competition level?
that's funny. this new hbo/showtime rivalry reminds me of the Microsoft/Google battle. to sum it up, we have 2 different financial systems that are on stakes (purchase vs free). Google proved that the latter system is only viable for the mass market and the revenue generated through advertising and diffusion rights can be very profitable. Honestly, who would had believed a few years back that google would be that huge! lol if showtime is brave enough to mass-diffuse for almost free of charge for the viewers and to follow google's system. IT WILL WORK! but they need guts to do it.
Difference is, online advertising was a trend on the rise with many advertisers looking to capitalize. Show me advertisers looking to capitalize on the boxing boom.
as long there is an audience, there will always be advertizers of anykind. you can try it by yourself if you create your own blog (google ads). showtime could also use the internet to broadcast. remember, we are living in a turning point where internet is becoming a major player in media communications (why do you think the arabs are doing their revolutions right now? because of mass spreading of internet) but the part i enjoy the most in this system: it's free :good
To be honest I dont see many parallels between google/microsoft and hbo/showtime. This is coming from someone who spends his day doing PPC & SEO for a living. But nonetheless we will have to see if one company ultimately wins out most likely they both will continue to exist and compete. I don't mind paying for boxing (like anything else) it just needs to be good fights with good under cards...
Well it's free for *****s to speculate prof. Let them. I would speculate floyd will look for reasons not to face Pacquiao prof. :rofl
You lying *****. You make up your own stories. Arum has better stable than GBP. Arum has the biggest names of Mexico, Phillipines, and PR in Cotto, Donaire, Pac, Margarito, Lopez, Gamboa, etc. Have you seen how many watched the Marquez-Katsidis, Khan-Maidana, and Berto-Ortiz fight? You'll see mostly curtains to cover the seats. One fight by Pac will be more than all of these GBP fights combined. No way GBP is making big money.
