In a previous poll I voted for Maidana. Now I voted for Gatti, that fight with Morales is the best evidence on why he can't beat Gatti.

Did I miss the part where Khan became a devastating puncher?

Gatti has as much heart and more skill than Maidana. Gatti wins this fight by decision or stoppage.

Probably Maidana, but it would be ****ing brutal to the last second.

Gatti though not a great boxer is much more fundamentally sound than Maidana.

Gatti by decision or stoppage to the body of Maidana.

Ortiz at 140 was a better fighter than Leija was at the weight, especially a 2005 version of Leija who basically had his foot out the door.

Leija was a gatekeeper by the mid 2000s, in fact, they even dedicated an article in The Ring about the "gatekeeper" and Leija was the main guy they talked about. He was much better in the mid 90s at 130.

Ruelas was a talented guy, I like the way he outboxed and outfought Leija, he had nice defensive moves and got very low to avoid shots, but he also was mentally damaged from the Garcia tragedy. Looked completely disillusioned against Nelson and fell apart in that fight, then fought against nondescript opposition leading up to the Gatti fight.

Now that being said, I do tend to favor Gatti in this matchup. Gatti had much faster hands and feet than Maidana, and could pop. Maidana is determined, but his punch resistance isn't that great. It's alright, nothing special. Both Ortiz and Khan dropped and hurt him, old man Morales seemed to hurt him. Also, unlike Khan, Gatti would continue to go to the body (and even below that) if he hurt Maidana. Khan rarely went back to the body after hurting Maidana there, probably concerned about leaving himself open to the head.

Gatti would likely look to box and use his legs. It didn't take long for Gatti to get out of his gameplan, and his defense was poor, so he'll take his lumps, but probably deliver more. Maidana's ring-cutting skills and accuracy leave a lot to be desired so he won't land as many as he should.

This would probably be like the Ward triology.... When Gatti went toe to toe with Ward they were pretty much dead even (although Ward got the dec) with maybe even Ward huring him more.. In the next 2 fights Gatti used his boxing skills more and although still very competetive he decisevly won..

Same think applies here. Would be pickem or maybe favor Maidana in a slugfest .. Gatti has better skills than Maidana if he uses them he wins.

I dont think Kahn hits harder than Gatti.. In fact for one punch Gatti defintiely hit harder,.. He was still a big puncher when he fought at JW . His power ddint diminish till he went up to ww. Kahn is a sharp puncher puncher but i dont think anyone consiiders him a ko artist type of guy, he has sneaky power. Gatti could change the fight around with one punch..and he proved it more than enough times.

since when did maidana became weak to the body, gatti had more power than khan but that liver punch in round 1 was as good as any of gatti's punch, khan isn't likely to land the same body shot on someone else again for a while

Exactly he was just hit in the perfect spot.. There have been countless fighters taken out by bodyshots ODLH vs Hopkins,Hill Vs Jones,Andrade Vs Bute and none of those guys had problems taking it to the body before or after those body shot ko losses. Perfect body shot is like getting kicked in the nuts because your gonna fold.
