previous beaten opponents Hernan Marquez (stopped in 8 by Donaire) and Raul Martinez (stopped in 4 by Donaire) won major fights? Martinez beat number 2 ranked superflyweight Rodrigo Guerrero and Hernan Marquez beat WBA flyweight champion Luis Conception. Does this make Donaire win's look any better or do the weight advantages for him nullify his accomplishments. I was remembering to when Jim Lampley claimed how Oscar De La Hoya's early good wins hold little merit as he had a large size advantage. This to me a similair situation to Donaire. What are your opinions of this?
Do Donaire's significant size advantages nullify the skills of his opponents and there future accomplishments in your opinion, or are these good wins over guys near the peak of there division now?
they were good wins, especially the Martinez one was obviously an incredibly dominant win over a solid opponent. The Marquez win is whatever. He was a late sub and two divisions smaller at the time.
those people are half Donaire's size... i want to see him against the guys his size.NO taking anything away from Nonito, but its time to see him fighting someone his size at FW
It's not Donaire's fault he's bigger than his opponents and his wins over these fighters doesn't diminish because he's bigger than them. Skills wins fight and Nonito has tons of it. He is the combination of Pac and Mayweather basically. Unless he goes against guys two division north Donaire is almost unbeatable against the current crop of fighters from 118-122...
Donaire has never fought at FW his entire career. He might look like a FW cause he is tall but he is just a skinny batamweight.
Agree its a shame this fight against Moreno didnt happen. I know little about him but his resume has some names I recognise. He also fought above 120 recently so he can't be too small. What are your thoughs on Oscars early wins e.g. Paez, John John Molina, Rafeael Rueles and Jesse James Leija when looking at his size?
I disagree with that he deserves less credit because of size, as long as he can weigh that he deserves credit, thomas hearns, Oscar all had size advantages early in their career. I do want to see donaire move up to 122 rather sooner then later to be honest.
he has a choice of stay fighting with the little guys,if his frame can hold it,but as he grows his body will demand to go up in weight.Corrales was a beast at 130 and 135 but suddenly went up to 147 and got easily beat by Clottey.I know Chico was a slugger and Nonito can box, but can he carrie his power with him like DLH did? or will his power go away like happened with Chico?... its why, when i heard people assuring he will easily clean up at FW i have to disagree.
its no the same a left hook from Montiel that a right hand from gamboa or a left hook from Junama, kkep that in mind
Funny thing is Montiel was heavier on fight night. He is a little tank. He mentioned he has to move up in weight. I think he has a good shot at wining a title at 122. I think that would be his 4th weight class too.
Well I definately think Donaire is more skilled than Juan Ma, it would be interesting to see how the weight difference plays out. But I am really liking Donaire, he has power but he uses his skill to win.
There is some wild cards here though. JML is a big FW. 140 on fight night. Stout build. Same height as Donaire. JML would be able to muscle him around and lets not forget Salido was huge with a great chin. Donaire would be nowhere near as big as Salido and his chin i dont think would be as good either. I like to refer to the Concepcion fight where he outweighed Donaire by something like 10 pounds and troubled him based on weight. JML would have weight and power on his side. Also Donaire is a precise puncher with good pop and as long as it troubles north then its a tough night for JML also. Slight edge to JML.
The best look-good-afterwards victory of Donaire is that tough one vs. South Africa's Mthalane. That fight tells you a lot about what Donaire can and can't do inside the ring, recommended stuff.
