I was thinking back to some of the guys that rarely even get a mention anymore, but they were regulars on ESPN and other televised shows. These guy represent more fighters out there than the top 1% that we talk about everyday. Anyways, I was watching Micky Ward-Reggie Green on ESPN classic and it got me thinking about that time and who I remember watching 10+ years ago. A few fighters around that time that for some reason popped into my head were Teddy Reid, Richard "The Alien" Grant, Edwin Santana, David Izon, Ben Tackie, Lawrence Clay-Bey, Lonnie Beasley, and a few others. Not sure that there is a point to this thread, but I started getting into boxing watching these guys, and others, every week on regular cable before I even knew or cared who the champions were, or who was headlining on HBO. I guess a lot of those guys are probably retired now, but thanks to them for some memories.
Clifford Etienne vs. Lawrence Clay-Bey on the undercard of Lennox Lewis-David Tua was a terrific fight. Derrick Jefferson vs. Maurice Harris is IMO, along with Liakhovich-Brewster, the best heavyweight fight of the last 14 years (not 15, Bowe-Golota 2 was in 1996).
Etienne-Clay-Bay was a very good fight . I remember a lot of people had high hopes for Clay-Bey going into that fight. Etienne had some skills and in his very next fight I remember Oquendo put him down like 8 times I think it was.
