I was ring side at the nec birmingham for it and was amazed at the shot nelson used to get Pat out of there.

Pat was awkward to figure out with a good defence but no power.

Yey it was a big shot... COwdell had a good jab too and pretty fast...

I remember this fight i was a young teen at the time and my mom dragged me to the mall.. I went to go hang out in the TV section and caught the fight there (back when they showed fights on regular tv)

Tells you that you can go by who gave who a great fight or who beat who to determine the outcome of a fight.

I think all you can do is analyse the styles the best you can and figure out what part of the style poses the biggest threat for the fighter in question.

Sanchez had close fights with cowdell and nelson, nelson blew pat away.. Styles make the fights as they say.

The difference is Pacquiao was too young, to green and malnourished in those fights, you can't say the same thing about Sanchez. :nono

In the Singsurat fight officially lost the fight before they enter the ring for failing to make the weight.

this fight would have been a war. Could go either way but slight edge to Pacman imo

what a pleasure it would have been to see these two guys bouncing around the ring against each other.

Even as a big Pacquiao fan, I say nahhh. The featherweight Pacquiao was not the same fighter as the lww/ww Pacman. He was one-handed and had a weak defence. At 140, Pacquiao beats Sanchez-calibre fighters (but even then, he doesn't "destroy" guys with elite skillsets like Sal), but at 126 Sanchez outclasses Manny. Sanchez could match Manny for chin, heart and endurance, but be his superior in terms of ring IQ and punch variety.

:huh What do you mean "destroyed"? The TS said "destoryed". Get it straight, IB! Pac would take SS's story away. :yep

Drawing conclusions based on a fight early in Sanchez's career at the age of 19 is bit silly.

Anarci is a big-time Mexicano homer, but he's not wrong in his assertion.

Sal had all the tools necessary to defeat Pac-man and I love Pac.

Excellent observation. It's nice to know others on here aren't 20 year olds with limited depth of fight watching.

Sal had outstanding punching power and, as you correctly cited, he was adept at counterpunching. I can see that capacity, coupled with punching power, creating difficulties for Pac. Sal was also pretty damn accurate with punches as well.

At what weight class? 122? 126? I don't think that the PAC of those weight classes would have beat Sanchez.

We dont know that yet since Pac hasn't faced anyone even close to a Sanchez-calibre fighter at 140lbs. So using a 140lb version of Pacquiao doesnt make sense when comparing him to Sal. All we can do here is Pacman at 126lbs, who gets outboxed by Chava.

Yeah he beat Danny Lopez, Azumah Nelson, Roberto Castanon, Ruben Castillo, and Wilfredo Gomez at their correct weight with no catchweights and bull****

he fought 15 rounders and fought better opposition

yet Manny Pacquiao is supposed to walk all over him

yeah because a legend like Sal Sanchez is such a push over
