If Roy insists on continuing to fight, this unimaginitive, stiff Russian is about the best choice. In an era of boxing where European mediocrities like Houck and Lebedev can have success, a guy like Jones can have success on memory alone.
Don't be surprised if Roy pulls this one out.

 

everybody is talking like Lebedev is some kind of beast. He has a lot of KOs against C-Level opposition. I dont think any of his wins rank higher than Jones wins over Lacy and Sheika which isnt saying much. Lebedev is a good fighter, but sentiment aside, Jones has a decent chance in this fight. Hes very awkward and experienced. Lebedev is used to fighting basic type fighter which Roy is not. If Roy can stay of the ropes he can probably still best Lebedev in the center of the ring.

 

I think lebedev is fast enough to find roy's chin even in roy's prime. Ruiz could hit few times roy than lebedev would hit him even more often. Roy was very fast but not in CW, he would be much slower weighin 90 kg.

 

Its sad, Roy shouldn't be broke but he needs the money, just like a way over prime Louis did when he made his comeback and that didn't end so good either, and he still needed money, same here for Roy, this won't be good win or lose he will still need money. Its a shame that a guy like that who was so untouchable in the ring couldn't find somebody to manage his finances better out of the ring, this story happens so often to boxers and all athletes, they forget their money has to last them for life long after the career is over, but they live like they will be making it forever. Ask Tyson, Holyfield and the list goes on and on. I suspect Floyd is next.

Even though I don't want to see this fight as well but RJJ is very respected in Russia, to the boxing community he's looked at as a God. Most fans over there are actually tuning in for RJJ rather than Lebedev and they all know RJJ is beyond past it anyway.

 

I don't think money is the issue here, he just enjoys fighting. If money was the issue I don't think he would have agreed to a 50/50 split with an unknown like Calzaghe.
