Prime Gerald McClellan vs Prime Hopkins

Awesome fight. Tough to call this one. Hopkins is better in more areas. He is very good at EVERYTHING. But McClellan is unbelievable in the punching power department and the speed with which he delivers those blows is ridiculous. He wasn't a one dimensional puncher either - he didn't just head hunt, his left to the liver was immense. IF Hopkins can avoid danger early and make the fight an inside, messy, dirty fight, he wins a decision or late KO. But like MrPR said, if Gerald catches him early, holy **** could he finish. I feel like he would realise that Hopkins was slipping and bring the hook to the body, and bang, game over.

But because of Hopkins' pedigree, and the fact I don't ever count him out, I'm going to say a Hopkins decision after he gets put over a couple of times early, but figures McClellan out and out hustles him on the inside up close for the final 6 or 7 rounds as he realises he can't give McClellan extension on the right.

 

Hopkins is the better fighter and would win.

He can fight in many different ways effectively, his ring IQ is top notch, he's great at taking away his opponent's best weapon. His defense is far, far better than McClellan.

 

Hopkins takes over by the late rounds and scores a UD.

 

Hopkins UD, just a better more complete fighter BUT I would definitely take G Man over the 2005- later version of BHOPS

 

good god people, Benn outboxed McClellan, Hopkins would box circles around Gman..and when was the last time Bernard got KO'd?

 

i'm sure Gman was at his best during that fight, that's why he was blinking non stop and fought half the fight with his mouthguard half way out.

The most 'fearsome' compitition and punchers Popkins faced were the likes of Trinidad, Echols, Mercado, Tarver who lost 50 lbs, and a alchoholic Pavlik with an elbow injury. Oh and Pascal.......Not Gerald level dangerous to say the least.

P.S. Been would have a good shot at beating Hopkins.

Hopkins is more of a beast than people seem to remember nowdays. Tough fight but Hopkins gets this on points. Big sticking point with G-Man is if he can't hurt you or you don't respect his power then his main gameplan is nullified.

G-Man had boxing skills as well. Might be a bit much for B-Hop...although stopping him seems damn near impossible.

 

Hopkins beats him fairly easily, and quite badly in the later rounds.

 

McClellan could have beaten Hopkins, it all depends on which Hopkins showed up.................McClellan was really good starter, swarmed his opponents.........

 

Hopkins has a good chin, so I doubt he would have been KOd, even by a big puncher like McClellan.
They both lost to poor competition on the way up, but I think the difference is that when fighting in world class, it took Hopkins longer to find his way. Hopkins lost to Jones and that can be overlooked a bit, but then Hopkins could only draw with Mercado first time around whilst Gerald was blasting out Mugabi and Jackson.
Hopkins has a style weakness to fast 2 handed fighters his own size. Hopkins is very good against naturally smaller fighters but McClellan wasnt.
I think Gerald would pressure Hopkins and win a decision
