He could have if he had better management and didn't start off with his uncle. The tools were there, but were wasted

    ATG? :blood

He still has to work to do to legitimately deserve first ballot entry into the IBHOF. (but stands a very good chance of getting that work done).

Whatever he does here on out will be too little too late to be called an All Time Great.

    ..and I really like Cotto.

JMM is definitely an all time great and waaaaaaaaaaaay higher ranked than Cotto... Its not even really close. JMM should be a first ballot hall of famer... I think Cotto should get in but no way is he a first ballot, he will probably have to wait at least 5 years maybe 10 or longer.

No, he is not an ATG.

He should get into the hall based on accomplishments, but he is not among the best of all time, and there is really no argument to suggest he is.

If he were to avenge Pac and Margo and then beat Martinez at 160, then he would be an ATG.

But he doesnt have that career defining win. The Mosley fight was one he could have (and some say should have) either lost or drawn in.

I think he comes up short.

Are you people ******ed? Don't answer that it is obvious you are.

I think did a thread on the subject of ATG before. It is clear to me you people have NO CLUE what it means to be an ATG.

To prove this some moron is going to tell me to give them my ATG 100!!!!!!! WTF!?

There are NOT 100 ****ing ATG's you ****ing morons and no Cotto has no chance of accomplishing this at this point.

Cotto is borderline HOF at that right now.

Do you people understand what it means to be ATG? Oh **** it don't answer that, it is clear you don't.

I think a better question is...What can Cotto do ensure a quick induction into the IBHOF. That's not an indicator that he was one of the all-time greatest, but would certainly solidify his place in history as one of this generation's better fighters.

So, let's see...what can he do to improve his standing in history?

    * Margarito is sliding, so a victory over him probably won't help his cause that much.

    * Unify the 154lbs titles? That wouldn't hurt is cause either, although it would likely have to include a victory over the fast rising Alvarez (provided he gets past Rhodes). Dzindzruck isn't well known, and is coming off a hard loss. And neither Powell or Bundrage are the types of fighters who are regarded enough to help a person's legacy.

    * Beat Martinez for the middleweight title...Although given Sergio's advanced age, you'd have to wonder if there would be a school of thought that Maravilla got old overnight.

Accomplishing two of these goals, or all three somehow, would certainly improve his standing, although probably not to the extent where one could honestly refer to him as an ATG. That's really a bridge too far at this point.

And as an additional note, Cotto's one of my favorite fighters. So it pains me to say that the ship has already set sail on his chance to achieve legendary status.

Lay off the pipe. JMM is Miles ahead of a Cotto. Not even close. :patsch

Definite HOF, but not ATG yet. A few more wins and he could get in. But that's the hard part he would have to beat two out of these three: Manny, Floyd, or Martinez. And that probably won't happen. Beating Margarito just gives him redemption.
