I see what you mean about the sponsers i think Warren gets a date by date sponsor like he had Rainham steel for the big Mitchell Show

Im pretty sure that Maloney has a deal with Stan James and Matchroom Party Casino. But if you havent noticed that then it shows how ineffective it is. Sky dont seem to have anybody who sponsors their boxing coverage in general either which is worrying.

There is a lot the promoters need to do but I think there is a lot more that Sky could do the more i think about the figures.

at the kevin mitchell vs katsidis fight they were playing "who the **** is alice" before the main event. shocking.

the last time young people were going to boxing in large numbers was Naz.

a major problem is that major PPV fights are not seen as a platform to push young fighters. more people will have watched Haye vs Harrison than any other fight but sky and the promoters didnt see it as an opportunity to push young fighters.

Talking about pricing of fights where in the uk average cards cost £30 on average

Carlos takam vs gebenga oklun ( wrong spelling) is five euros for a normal seat and ten euros for ringside

Good reasoned points, but I don't agree about fewer boxing events. How many boxing 'events' were there last year? I don't think we are saturated with them.

The problem with the 'events' (and I hate that bull**** promoter term) is the same with too many cards, they are filled with uncompetitive fights.

Still, there are some good fights to look forward to this year courtesy of Warren i.e. Cleverly-Braemer, Degale-Groves, Murray-Mitchell etc. But, the cards so far on Sky have been a disappointment.

Although I am not a fan of MMA, I am curious to go to a UFC event to check out how they run their shows and just for the experience of it. Do they have 'boxrec' or website that you can check for shows in the UK and Ireland?

In this country? The only BAMMA event that has sold a lot of tickets was the one headlined by Alex Reid. They were heavily papering the previous event and the one they held in February saw the MEN configured for less than 10,000. And the UK Challenge MMA shows that Sky puts on are held in front of pretty small crowds - no more than 1500-2000. The UFC on the other hand sold out the 02 and did a gate of around $2.6million.

In terms of North America, the UFC is the only organisation that is consistently doing well at the box office. Strikeforce has the occassional big show but that's it. And of course the UFC now owns Strikeforce. The UFC is much much more than just "a particular promoter/company" within MMA.

To be fair I did notice that Warren had Rainham as a sponsor for the Mitchell fight but who the **** are Rainham.

I also noticed that occasionally before Maloney shows they mutter out a few Poker sites as sponsors but once again they don't do anything that resonates and it may sound strange but they aren't cool brands which draw the attention and give the impression that this is a high quality product.

I found this article on Golden Boy and their sponsors http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2010/06/20100614/SBJ-In-Depth/Golden-Boy-Building-Its-Sponsor-Roster.aspx and that is what I am talking about they bring in name brands which will bring in the added revenue and having those brands associated to a promotion can only bring advantages with it.

There's no UFC event on the horizon in the UK - may be one in autumn though. Probably either Liverpool or Nottingham.

And I struggle to see how somebody can not look at the weak main events Sky having been showing over the past few months and not conclude that resources are being spread too thinly.

lol brilliant but once again so true, they don't play music what so ever apart from just before the main event. Haye-Harrison was the epitome of why Boxing is in the grave, the whole show was horrific and somewhat ironic considering David Haye preached how Boxing shows have to do more, have to be entertaining and needing a strong undercard :fire

Another era dude. Cage Rage had big money behind it from America and Sky was supporting it. Its not run an event since 2008. UK Challenge MMA was formed from the ashes.

I think it is the opposite. There is more than enough money given to promoters to run a show from Sky i.e between 40-70k depending on what title is at stake for the main event.

If promoters actually did their job and promoted right, they will deliver a good competitive card, promote the event and fill a decent venue.

It doesnt take a genius to work out that putting a couple of flyweights or super flyweights top of the bill in a british title fight and paying them a small fraction of the tv pot (certainly a lot smaller than the higher weights) and then dishing out a poor under card with young prospect v latvian bum, that the promoter is trousering a nice little profit for themselves. I don't think resources are an obstacle for putting together a decent domestic card, too often, it is money for old rope.
