Pac-Marquez III is ON!!! Nov 12 @ MGM Grand!

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by ishy, Apr 25, 2011.

  1. Pacquiao and Marquez are still the same size.

Pacquiao weighed 148 pounds in the ring against Margarito.

Marquez weighed 145 pounds in the ring against Katsidis.

They need to fight again. It doesn't matter if it's at lightweight, light welterweight, or welterweight. Both fighters will have to make the same weight at the weigh in and both fighters will be a similar weight in the ring fight night.

Exactly. And if Manny wins spectacularly as many predict then he'll deserve full credit for doing so. Marquez deserves the chance for sure.

    ^^^ Agreed.

It's not as if there's loads of opponents out there for Manny to fight, or Marquez for that matter - both are coming to the end of their careers and will want to be involved in as big a fight as possible that pay the best £££.

This fight ticks all those boxes. Ideally it would have happened by now.... the Clottey fight was only made when Mayweather went into hiding, the Margarito fight was pretty pointless all things considered.... so there was a window there.

Marquez has cleared out 135, Pacquiao 147 with the exception of Ortiz. Get it done!

If Pacquiao wins by knockout he'll get all the credit in the world from me, unless of course Roach starts fannying around with minimum weights or whatever.... in which case due consideration must be given to that fact.

Realistically Pacquiao will weigh in the low 140's, and get in there just under 150. Marquez will be in the high 130's and get in there in the low 140's. I'm not sure he'd be as heavy as 145 for this fight.... will want to retain a bit of speed which wasn't necessary against Katsidis, where strength was more important.

I just hope when this court case of Mayweather's finally comes up that he gets O.J. Simpson'd and sent down for a very long time. That way we can all be freed from his bull**** for good.

I agree with Slip that Bradley, whilst he has the skills to beat an Ortiz or a Berto, should stick to 140. He's a tank there.

JMM-Pac should be at 140 for The Ring Belt....Ring 135lb Champ Vs Ring 140lb Champ, would be a classic.

And JMM IS above Floyd on the P4P list IMO.

Its the only intriguing fight left outside of PBF lets get it on but im pretty sure that Pac is a few steps ahead of him now since their last meeting. Which probably wont really do Amrquez the justice he deserves

I'm warmng to this. Jmm has shown that he has the counterpunching style to trouble PAC twice already. I don't see why he cant be competitive again.

The weight thing bothered me but it's not like PAC has been coming in at 160...

Mayweather wasn't any bigger when he retired after beating Hatton yet he gets zero credit for completely schooling Marquez from start to finish, despite using his skill and movement rather than weight as an advantage.

I'm not sure why we should gush over Pacquiao for doing the same.

  8. Mayweather weighed at least 10 pounds heavier than Marquez in the ring. He is also taller. He used those physical advantages (as well as his considerable skill) to dominate Marquez.

Pacquiao does not have any physical advantages over Marquez.

I thought there was no same day weigh-in done for that fight? Do we actually know what Floyd weighed that night?

  10. No I don't think we do but it's a reasonable assumption that he starves and dehydrates to make 147 then rehydrates himself like every other fighter does. He must have weighed 155 plus in the ring.

I don't know, I remember seeing the HBO same-day weigh-ins for some of his other fights, and it was surprising how little his weight increases.

Trying to find them now, but I can't. All i can come across so far is the WBC 30-day weigh-in before the De La Hoya fight, where he weighed 152. He was walking around only 2 pounds (150 at weigh-in) different 30 days out, I doubt he would have gone much higher in the ring.

I'll keep checking, see if i can find em.

  12. I don't think he does fight day weigh-ins. I'm speculating.

He certainly looked bigger than Marquez in the ring and he used his superior size and reach as an advantage. Pacquiao doesn't have this advantage. Which was the point I was making.

Floyd was way bigger than Marquez. And not only the weight, he looked to have the height and reach advantage too. It was a size mismatch IMO.

Whatever the calculations, you had a guy who campaigned at 135 against a guy who campaigned at 147 and it showed.

Pac should fight JMM then Sergio Martinez- then get out. **** mayweather- let him keep his unbeaten record- that fight will never happen- he's too scared of losing.

HBO said Mayweather weighed in at 148lb in the ring in the DLH fight and that DLH wouldn't get on the scales.

He also weighed in at 149lb against Baldomir and 146lb against Judah, 1lb less than Pacquiao weighed in against Diaz when they fought at lightweight believe it or not.

Btw The Ring magazine said Mayweather weighed 152lb in the ring vs Marquez, but even before that people had wrote the fight off as Mayweather fighting a lightweight even though his last recorded weight (before moving down should I add) was 148lb, the same as Pacquaio weighed against Margarito.

Yet now for Pacquiao to do the same is acceptable...:think
